The fuel pump and coil are on two different circuits.
The fuel pump is on the 20amp ECM fuse and the coil, ignition module, and injectors are on a 20amp fuse #10. But the ECM fuse could keep the coil and injectors from working.
You would need to test the fuses in the box in the engine compartment, and the fuel pump relay and coil for voltage and ground. The pump relay is grounded by the computer for 3 seconds when the engine is cranked.

Check your ECM fuse. It controls both spark and injectors

fuel pump. I had a Lumina that did the same thing. I started with the fuel filter and that didnt help so i tried starting it with starter fluid and that is how I discovered it was fuel pump. Expensive at garage but my boyfriend and cousin did it using pictures from autozone.com. WAY CHEAPER!

SOURCE: Fuel stopped working, no fire to spark plugs

When I hear no fuel or fire I always think of ignition module first. The moudule tells the coil when to fire, and if you don't have fire at the plugs then the fuel pump won't run due to saftey issue. Take your module in to parts store and they will test for free.

Car That Turns Over But Won't Start problem?

There are many possibilities for this problem. But are some are very common for this problem.
1) Check out there is enough gas in your car.
2) Check the charge of the battery. It should be exact 12 volts. if the charge is low the engine will crank but won’t start.
3) Get it confirmed that there is fuel in car and fuel pump is also turning on
4) To check whether fuel pump is turning on or not try this procedure.Insert the key in the ignition, then turn the key to the ON position, and listen carefully from the back seat side you will here an electric noise for about 1 second every time you cycle the key on/off. If you hear nothing then your fuel pump is faulty or not receiving any power. In this case the fuel pump needs replacement.
5)But if fuels pump check out ok.then continues towards engine for finding fault. Check where engine is receiving the gas. Many times clogged fuel filter or blocked fuel injectors don’t let gas to flow towards the engine.
6) If the gas flow is proper towards the engine. Then route towards the spark plugs.
7)Check whether you get spark while you crack the engine. if no spark then it’s the problem in the spark plugs.
8) The spark plugs receive power from coil pack. If the coil pack is having proper voltage the fault in spark plugs is confirmed. But if the coils pack has low voltage then its time to replace the coil pack.

This will help. Thanks.

1984 Chrysler new Yorker 2.6l wont start. Replaced the fuel filter, new spark plugs and wires, new fuel shut off switch, new relay delay fuse, and a new ignition coil, oh yeah and a new starter. Ever hear...

Here's a quote from amy Chilton's manual for 1980-1987.

"Several types of fuel filters are used. One is located in the fuel tank of all the vehicles and is part of the fuel guage assembly. Second is a sealed paper element, in-line unit; mechanical system- located on the engine (above the fuel pump) or electrical system- located in front of the fuel tank. Third is a paper element, in-line fuel filter/vapor separator, housed in a fuel resevoir. Normally, the in-tank filter does not require changing. If it does, the fuel tank must be removed. "
This thing you describe sounds like the typical Chrysler in-line filter of its day. It is nothing more than the same generic in-line plastic see-thru filter you buy for your lawn mower except in the 70's and 80's it was covered in metal and had a Chrysler part number. A lot of guys added an extra filter in those days, it wasn't the best system. I would remove the outlet line and turn the fuel pump on, see if you get fuel. Replace if needed.

Hi, Ok you have confirmed that it's not a fuel problem. You need to check for spark. Pull the coil wire off of the coil(secondary lead-looks like a spark plug wire) Have some one crank it over and listen for a popping sound. IF yes, spark is at the coil, that means all ignition sensors are working. Next check for spark at ends of wires after cap. IF no replace cap and rotor. IF yes remove a couple spark plugs and check for fouling(wet, fuel etc...) IF yes replace or clean plugs and retest for starting. IF no spark is present at coil you need to scan computer and watch for rpm signal. IF no rpm signal, replace crankshaft sensor with OEM delco part. BIGGEST problem with these engines is Cap and Rotor burn out.
