Loud Noise in Central Dash area, 2000, F-150,,Sounds like a fan hitting against a heavy plastic part.Starts around 45MPH.. I think its either air flow or speed causing it.

Have you checked to see if the heater motor is ok. Sometimes the newer ones have a bearing in the end by the plastic fan and the bearing will allow the fan to drop down and cause a loud noise when running. To check turn off the heater motor fan on the dash and see if the noise goes away.

Ticking Noise

ticking noise usually but not always is from the head--valves-usually a rocker arm starved for oil or bent clogged push rod check oil if black and thin can cause tick also extreme cold can cause -because oil thickened sometimes goes away when warmed up-same noise /check oil pressure extreme problem oil pump failing or clogging --timing belt can cause a ticking but they usually fail-- break causing major problem ----other area to check are the pulleys and bearings in witch the belt rolls on-- alternator can also cause a tick when bearing is failing --

Belt tensioner noise

You can use a funnel and a section of heater hose to listen around the area, just be careful and not get the hose caught in the belt.
Or you can take the belt off and turn the pulleys by hand to check for bearing noise.

Serpintine belt came off after a couple of days of a squeaky grinding noise from that area. no issues with power or electric or cooling before it came off. could it be more than just the belt

Hello bigfish.

We often see this on the Chrysler vans in the shop.
You will need to check all the pulleys and bearings that the belt runs on.
Alternator, AC compressor, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, power steering pump.
Also the tensioner has a heavy spring in it that keeps tension on the belt and pivots on an aluminum pin.
If it wears it go crooked and tilts pushing the belt off.
All these parts are available through your favorite auto parts store.
I would recommend a Goodyear Gatorback belt if you are replacing it, they seem to work the best.

If you would like further advise with this, please ask me in comments.
Thank you.

My van is making a sweaking noise in the area of the belts and pulleys. i have replaced the tensioner assembly, belt, idler pulley, alternator and battery. whats the problem?

take a long pole as from a push broom and use the pole as a stethascope. place the pole to the power steering pump at a safe aera and place your ear to the other end of this will hear the churning of the bearing as the engine is running. do this to every part that runs off the belt. you will notice a big difference when you listen to all bearings. if all sound good as a normal churning noise you have a glaze of dried oil on your pulleys making the belt to sqeak

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer LS with strange noise.....

If it is making a noise in the belt area, have them check the water pump. These get loose water pump bearings that cause belt noise.
