Question about 1991 Isuzu Trooper

2 Answers

Clutch repair I have a 1991 Isuzu Trooper 2.8 TD RHD - first registration Germany, now in Spain. Clutch gave out whilst driving - towed to local garage - repaired fault but on test drive they experienced slippage. New clutch plate, slave cylinder, master cylinder and other 'odds and sods' - did not replace flywheel - but they also found damage in the form of an irregular 'hole' in a part (they can't name it for me) behind the flywheel that they tried to fix with metal filler. This has not held and the oil pressure has forced the seal/gasket causing a total oil leak. They now say I need to replace this part. It consists of two half moon shapes that fit together to form a central circular hole, behind the flywheel somewhere. They say they could get one from Korea!!!! at mega cost in several months time and I should try and get one elsewhere. It seems ridiculous to me (a mere woman) that they cannot give a name to the part or at least a better description/definition and obviously I can't try ordering one without knowing what it is - any ideas?

    I appreciate your help - not sure any of these match the damaged part but I will check with my garage mechanic. If my memory serves me rightly the 'half moons' were fairly solid looking, shiny, and had greater depth than those shown here.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, to my knowledge in some diesel engines, there could be 2, 3 parts within that area that would fit your description. They are:
2 hard rubber gaskets (#42) that forms part of the gasket between the oil pan and the bottom of the block;
Clutch repair - 4c9359d.jpg
2 metal plates shape as half moon each with holes for small bolts. Their purpose is to keep the rear crank shaft oil seal in position;

Thrust washers;

Whatever it is that needs replacement, you can try:

The flywheel bolts to the crankshaft. All I can imagine happening is when they removed the flywheel to resurface it the installed wrong bolts that were to long damaged the rear ain oil seal housing causing a leak. Are you in Spain? Can they show you the bad part? Can you describe to me waht it looks like? I could buy one here in Texas and ship it to Spain for less than mega costs!!

    Ask them if they removed and resurfaced the flywheel. If they did then I'd bet they damaged the rear main seal and housing.

Where is crankshaft positioning sensor on 1998 isuzu trooper

which engine? 1998
must we guess that and tell you wrong......
here is the line up. pick one.?????
to fix any engine or buy parts you need to say which one, (1/2 the posts here dont.. and go nowhere)

3.2 L 6VD1 SOHC V6 Gas. my guess 1st 3 here.
3.2 L 6VD1 DOHC V6
3.5 L 6VE1 DOHC V6
3.0 L 4JX1 TD I4 (diesels x2)
3.1 L 4JG2 TD I4

pick one.?

once we know that we can look in the FSM book
or at isuzu dot com and read the parts pages.
and see all parts on car or engine.

many oem parts sites have no photos , so avoid them...

one of the better sites, have no photo as seen here.
https://www.isuzupartscenter.com/parts/1998/Isuzu/Trooper/index.cfm?action=partDetail§ion=ELECTRICAL&group=POWERTRAIN%20CONTROL&subgroup=POWERTRAIN%20CONTROL&component=CRANKSHAFT%20POSITION%20SENSOR&partnumber=8971361251&vehicleid=43872&siteid=216496

(a 1/2 baked job there... huh?)
GENERIC facts:
crank sensors can be in 4 places.
1: front of crank at pulley
2: near center of crank, omg. yes.
3: at fly wheel at bell mount.
4: behind fly wheel remove transmission first.

now you know the places.
and if you look carefully deduction answers this.

none on bellhousing;
none on front pulley.?
leaving what, the 2 harder ones.

the center sensor can look like knock sensor.
so.... you need to read the FSM for that.
or try to buy the part using the shape of it proves what it is or not. (it does in this case)

so ill guess, (silly huh?) 3.5L v6 engine. option
here is that sensors. below.

so its not the behind flywheel ,see why?
its mid crank, or front or bell sensor..

so ill google for you...
its not on the BELL.

so 6dv1,
FINDS
THIS (MID CRANK AND A PHOTO OF IT)
i did all this in 5min work....
and was posted here before, if you search for your unstated engine.

Transmission or clutch or shifter

4th gear is driven straight thru the middle of the gearbox. All the other gears are driven via the lay gear. I'm not 100% familiar with your particular box but it seems like a key on the front gear of your layshaft is sheared. This can be brought on by towing heavy loads in 5th. hope this helps.

Sounds like you put the clutch disk on backwards. Your not getting enough throw or you installed the wrong kit.

Isuzu trooper starts for a few seconds then shuts off

You need to trace all of your wires to the fuel pump from the fuse back.. If you are "popping" a fuse there is a short to ground.... more than likely it sounds like the problem is under the dash.. If you are experienced enough, go ahead and tackle it. Otherwise have it towed to a local independent shop with a good reputation in the community for automotive electrical repair.

Good Luck
