Have a 2000 C5. Oil pressure reads 80 on the analog, and 130 on the display, right on start up. I noticed all other gauges jump to the right side, then back down when motor starts up. Not the oil pressure. It defaults to the right side and stays there.

    Any ideas ?

I have 2002 corvette. The oil gauge is pegged at 80 and shows 130 on the display. Is the solution replacing the oil sensor and how is that accomplished. Can I do it myself.

Hi guys my 2001 ls1 corvette has a problem with the oil pressure gauge it fluxuates from low to high tripping the service engine warning and the red light the car has a good level of oil and all other...

This does sound like the oil pressure sending unit is going bad. Had an 02 Vette with the same issue.

The location of the sending unit is behind the intake manifold. You will unfortunately have to remove the manifold in order to replace the unit, but this is easy enough as the intake manifold is as simple as they get on the LS1 engine.

Hope this helped!

My engine oil pressure gauge is showing 73psi at idle and as I drive it goes up to 90psi under 2oooRPM.. both the computer and gauge read the same psi.. Can I drive like this? What is the solution?

That is normal, many vehicle normal pressure is 50 psi and minimum is 15. The pressure you have is good,Its high but good, some high oil pressure will cause the lifter to solidify and then a misfire will occur, and again this is very rare.many oil pump in yester year car was driven by a worm gear attatch to a distributor, and it is still but without the distributor. So the oil pump is driven the same way and is monitored by the oil pressure sensor,(when oil pressure is low the light will go off then you would know you got a problem). The faster the car is driven the more lubrication its going to need so the oil is buid up at the same time engine demands are high. You dont have anything to worry about enjoy the car come on its a Corvette. Just make sure the level is good and change when its needed.

I just bought a '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the oil press. indicator is always on H. I heard the engine during idle making a "clancking" sound which i heard before in cars with the wrong oil type...

I would recommend changing the oil and filter, using the correct oil. It's possible the wrong oil could cause the noise. Wait and see if the oil change has any effect on the oil pressure reading. If it doesn't, change the oil pressure switch or sending unit.

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, just did an oil change. And now my oil pressure idle is jumping, what has caused and what should I do?

did you change oil brands or motor engine oil weight ? it even could be a bad oil sending unit / oil pump

02 cherokee losing oil pressure when accelerating, fine at idle.

Was the sending unit an aftermarket part?We like to install the original part back into most vehicle, but because of people price shopping, this can cause some issues. If the switch is working properly, the gauge should rise as the engine RPM's increase as you stated. With the key on and the engine off, disconnect the sending unit wire and ground it. The gauge should go to the highest reading, and that checks the wire, and the gauge. I suspect that the sending unit is failed or not the proper one for your vehicle.

Oil pressure gauge reads 80 lbs display at 130

If they haven't moved it it should be behind the back of the intake manifold. Only other place I'd look is near the oil filter. You can change it. There is a special socket called an oil pressure sending unit socket, They come in a couple of different sizes. If unit is the "bell" type, you can use a wrench on it.

Hook up a manifold gauge (mechanical temporary use gauge, used by mechanics) and test the oil pressure. You probably need to replace the gauge. The computer sends info through a printed circuit board behind gauge cluster and sometimes you have to replace the whole gauge cluster.

Yes you have to check your pressure with a mechanical gauge first. If the pressure reading is good replace the oil pressure sending unit. They are known to go bad, and oil pumps going bad is rare.
