The tap? Do you mean the knob that turns hot to cold? If you are talking about this i had this problem on my 96 accord. You can pull the knob directly off. Do not twist it because it has interlocking teeth. See if the plastic teeth have been broken. That was my problem. Got a new knob for 7 bucks from body shop but you could just twist it with a wrench if you want(with the knob offf, of course)
the easiest way to add remote entry is to get an alarm system or remote car starter off of ebay. you have to be pretty good at wiring to install them but they do come with directions. you will need the wireing diagrams of your car also. if you are not very confident in wiring you can have them installed for one or two hundred dollars at a sterio shop.
