It might be the linkage or perhaps the transmission.

Hi when i drive my 1990 pontiac lemans le about 2or3 miles down the road it just dies ? but when it cools off it will start again i can't figuer out what the problem is can you help me

Most Gm cars when they over heat they shut down. This is a self preservation mode built in by GM, thy the thermostat first and then water pump if it persists. But know that you may be dealing with a engine that has Aluminum heads. Caution needs to be taken to not overheat too many time as to not cause warping the head.

If it only warms up to operating temperature and dies check the EGR Valve. It should be open within 10 minutes or so. If not the engine will die out although it will start after the engine cools down again

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix shuts down in Drive or Reverse

When you remove your vehicle from park, the idle air control valve (electronic choke) operates to keep enough air going into the motor while you aren't using the throttle so it will stay running. If it is too dirty it can't move properly...you'll stall.
Pull out and clean or replace the idle air control valve.

Fuel problem

fuel pump could be overheating and need replaced, if this happens exactly the same each time it seems that is the case, the gasoline in the tank cools the pump through the returned system, alot of people that drive around near empty all the time will burn out their fuel tank quicker because of the pump not being cooled properly, you have spark when the car wont start?
