Question about 1999 Honda Accord

1 Answer

1999 Accord front bumper cover

The bumper cover is cracked and I would like to replace it. I don't know if "bumper cover" is the right term for this part, but it's a one-piece plastic part that covers everything from under the hood and the lights, and wraps around to the front wheels. The license plate is also mounted on to this "bumper cover."

The reason I ask is because I looked it up on the Internet. It looks like it's right, but it's less than $100 - that seemed very cheap. Maybe because it's not painted?

Also, where can I find instructions on how to remove the old part and install the new one?

Thanks,

Jae Kim

It sure does help! Thanks dgjtex!

Some follow-up questions, though. Can I get some spray paint in cans and paint it in my garage now (upper 30s - I live in Chicago :)

Or maybe I should do it in the basement where it's warmer - 60s. But will it be unhealthy?

If I do paint it, any recommendations on what to use? Coats of primer, paint, sealant, etc.

Or do you recommend that I get it painted professionally at a body shop?

    Thanks,

    Jae Kim

I do this for a living and I think I can help you.
The bumpers are available for around 35.00 wholesale, the paint is waht is expensive, Installation is a breeze. Bolts on each side and clips to wheel skirts, Headlights may need to be removed I can't remember, also under the car is a shield that attaches to the cover. It will come right off after that. I think a couple of clips under the hood holding it to the core support, I do so many of these it is hard to remember exactly how each one is attached, but just installed one on and acura rsx,. Hope this helps you!

Unless you are a professional painter you will have less than perfect results, I do this for a living and we use only the best materials and they are dangerous to breathe, you really need a resperator and a paint booth. If you game and want to paint it you need to use an automotive grade paint and clear coat, also if the plastic bumper has not been primed you will have to prep it and prime it first. The part is the cheapest part of this repair, paint and labor will be around 350.00

Front bumper guard pulled loose on curb. Missing plastic push pins. One corner cracked slightly. Looks like it can be snapped back into place. Any suggestions?

New push pins and drill a couple hole on both sides of crack to install zip ties this will hold or you need to replace the cracked piece (bumper cover etc)

05' Grand Caravan, told that 2 of the rear bumper parking sensors need to be replaced. What is the proper term for these, as I can't find them anywhere, and how invasive to replace?

I wish I had good news but rarly does this sensor go out. unless someone rear ended you. in this case the bumper cover has to be removed.

Front bumper cover is broken, no lights along bottom.

Under the bumper cover is a fiberglass bumper. It could be broken or your bumper mounts could be bent on that side. It is best to remove the screws (on the side of the wheel well) and 10mm bolts holding the bumper cover, and locate the two frontal bolts in each bracket. There are also some plastic push pin nuts in various spots too. Don't try to get the push pins under the headlights, they will come with when the bumper is removed.

Another good source of secondhand bumpers is a spoiler shop, might even find one the same colour if you're lucky.

2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT needs new rear bumper cover

Depends on whether it is broken cracked or just scuffed. Repaint of the scuffed cover between $200 and $300. If cracked or broken a good used bumper is about $150 buy you usually have to paint and install. The total cost could add up to $500.00
If you are lucky to find a good one you do not need to paint in your color it is about 1 hour labor to replace.

The plastic piece that starts by the bumper/fenders that runs along the bottom of the doors and side of the car Chrysler calls the Body Cladding (Left or right side), If you are refferring to the piece of plastic under the bumper and front of the engine compartment that protects the underneath of your engine compartment that is called the Belly Pan.
