Re: i need to get the stock stereo out of my 2001 e15o
Get a coat hanger and cut the bent ends off. Bend these into a U shape and insert these into the holes to pull the radio out. The Ford radio tool costs less than five dollars, but I'm all for saving money.

i believe that the radio has 4 small holes spaced 1.5" on the vertical and 4-5' apart on the horizontal on the face of the unit. forming a rectangle if you connect the dots. there is a tool you can buy that is shaped like a "U" small round stock metal with points on the ends. they com in pairs, generally available at auto part stores. insert the tools into the vertically spaced holes and push the tools into the unlocking tabs. pull the radio out. there are instructions included.
remove the front cover and behind it are two holes either side that push a special tool in to release the springs,if you dont have the tool cut a piece of fence wire 4 inches long and bend in a U shape and push this in
You can make tool to take it out. Get a hanger, and make two U shaped tools out that wire hanger. The U should be as such so that its ends will fit on the holes. The two U shaped tools are for each side. You push them into the holes to free up the loocking mechanism all at the same time then you can pull out the radio. GOOD LUCK!!
If this is the kind with 4 holes in i, then you need to get the removal tools or use 4 nails or long screwdrivers all at same time and pull out the stereo. If you do not have the holes, then you may have the kind that requires tools to slide in sides between stereo and bracket to loosen the hold. A butterknife sometimes works for this..
There is a Small Plastic Frame around the Stereo. Remove this Frame and there should be Slots on Both sides. These Staereos come with Long key looking Rods that go inside these Slots and then you can Pull the Stereo Right out. If you do not have these, Locate a Stereo shop in your area or Even Best Buy and have a Radio Installer Release the Deck for you or maybe you could even Purchase a Pair of these for a Couple of Bucks from them in case they release it and it accidentally Smaps back into Place. it happens!!!!
i dont know about that but be carful because iv read that there are security sensors in the wiring of the radio its called rats radio anti-theft system if tampered with it may cause ur car to lock up and not start until u take it to a mazda dealer or mechanic and they do a factory reset which may be very costly
there are two holes in either side of the face plate. There is a tool (shaped like a pair of elongated horseshoes) that you can use. But I have gotten them out without the tools by taking 4 small nails inserted in the holes and a slight outward pressure to compress the clips while pulling on them. Once you get it out, you will see the mechanism and smile.
Assuming it's a Ford radio, you'll see 4 small holes on the radio front panel, 2 on each side. A pair of "U" shaped tools (buy them at almost any parts store) go into these holes, then pry outward to release the radio. I've made the tools myself by bending some stiff wire (a coat hanger works).
