I suspect the fuel concern is a diagnostic dead end. This sounds like an electrical short. However, at the third key position, the glow plugs are also activated. Glow plugs use relatively high current flow to energize. On my older hilux, they are on a separate fuse under the hood. If they are shorting on the glow plug rail to a loose wire or any other grounded item, the fuse will blow. You will have to check if yours are on a separate fuse, as well. Regardless, I would first check your ignition circuit by obtaining a wiring diagram and tracing the wires from the ignition to the next element in the circuit. It will be a dead short causing the fuse to blow. It could be in the starter motor or associated solenoid. Or in the glow plug relay circuit. Disconnect the glow plugs from the power wire to ensure they are not causing it, they probably wont be. N try to find the relay that operates them and un plug that. It will become a process of elimination. I hope that helps
the glow plugs have a rail/wire that joins /links all of them that rail receives 12volts across it ,check that it is not touching against any metal earth surface ,if it seems to be fine disconnect the power wire to the rail and insulate wire .Then refit fuse and turn on key ,if the fuse blows you know that there is a short in the wiring going to the glow plugs ,if the fuse does not blow it is highly likely that one of the glow plugs has shorted and needs replacing
Check each glow plug lead for earthing. This could be the lead chaffing against something on the engine block. Alternatively, remove all glow plug leads and replace them, one by one, starting the engine after each lead is re-fitted, until you find the faulty one
Glow plug light indicates if the system is working as designed too. If you have one or two glow plugs out it will start but idle rough at first.
If the glows do not come on, engine will not start or do so after extended cranking and idle rough if temperature below 50F.
If glow lamp not coming on, the 80 amp fuse may be blown. There is a black box on the left inner fender just back from the headlamp. . Under the cover is a thick fuse held by two Phillip head screws.( IIRC.)
If the engine will not crank, try moving the shifter lever back and forward while you turn ignition to crank. If still no crank, it is often the electrical switch under the ignition switch burnt.
Are the other cluster warning lamps, Oil, Battery, Brake, etc coming on when you turn on the ignition.?
You have a dead short on the glow plug circut, if you look at the back of the motor there's a wire which is attached to the glow plug rail, this may be rubbing on the engine. If you follow it and make sure that this is not the case, then it can only be a short circut with one of the glow plugs. Hope this helps. Let me know if this helps
might be that there is a defective glow plug there. can be that one of those glow plugs has a prob with its own insulation and is causing a short circuit.
