Where is the Alternator located in a 1997 Lexus LS 400

Last night my car died on me no lights nothing. I got a jump from a friend got home, next morning nothing, brother gave me a jump drove the car about 40 miles round trip (with out turning car off) Once I got home nothing. The car will take a jump and run but once shut off I have no lights no radio no power. I just got a battery about three months ago from sears die hard. I think the problem can be the alternator. Where is the alternator located on the vehicle and is it an easy fix for a novice like myself to do.

Thanks,
Dennis

If the car ran and got you home after a jump start I doubt the alternator is bad. Check your battery. And remember never ever disconnect the battery cable with the engine running.

Altenator or transmission?

Looks like it needs adaptation/relearning.

Transmission or altenator?

I would say change the alternator out. Start with the simplest and cheapest factor first. Without the alternator keeping the engine running its hard to put it any gear.

I have a 1990 Lexus LS 400 and I was told the alternator is the problem....The lights, radio, and tail-lights do not work (Nothing electrical even with a new battery). Could this be the only problem??...

I would inspect your wires at the starter. If you live up north then corrosion is bad, clean all wires going to starter. then clean wires to back of alternator. I seriously doubt that alternator is the problem, but if you remove it you can have it tested for free at most parts stores.

I have a '93 Lexus LS 400. Car would not start

sounds like you need a new alternator but I would replace battery cables and probably the battery as well.
