I just got the vehicle. It is grossly overful with ****** fluid. I pulled the vaccuum line to the modulator and fluid came out. Is the modulator bad or malfuntioning due to the fluid level?
SOURCE: how to add or check transmission oil
this t-bird has a 5r55s trans. it does not have a dipstick.
it has a "standpipe" type leveling system.
to check fluid level the tranmission has to be within 80-120 degree f.
take the plug out of the center of the fitting located on the bottom of the trans pan. it is a torx 30.
running in park the fluid should drip slower than a coffee pot.
to add you need a npt thread fitting the same as the little plug you removed. and attach a bottle of mercon5 and hose to it. squeeze the bottle to add fluid
then recheck it by letting it drain out to a fast dribble. then install the little plug back in.
remember 80-120 degree fluid temp.

Five-Speed Manual Overdrive Transmission (Ford Manual Transmission) Motorcraft MERCON® Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or -DDX (E4XZ-19582-B) or Equivalent
the above are ford part #'s listed from the service manual.
ps your 4 thumbs up is appreciated!
SOURCE: local mechanic says they can't check fluid level
"Sealed" means there's no dip stick tube.
The Explorers and Lincoln LS have this also.
It is nothing new and you can still change/flush the fluid as usual.
A special procedure is used to check the fluid level.
Not having the dip stick tube is one less place for dirt to get into the transmission.

SOURCE: 1998 ford explorer is having a transmission slip
Shift solenoid is typically WHEN to shift, not slipping.
Bands and fluid are slipping (and sometimes pump).
Cheap test, remove old, install new fluid... test.
If it works - congrats.
If not, AAMCO or other transmission place for a real test.
Testimonial: "thank u very much :) while I know a little I am not that knowledgeble. "
SOURCE: how replace a transmission modulator valve on
It is located on the transmission with a vaccume line going to it. There is a clamp with a bolt that holds it to the transmission. It is an easy fix.
