Even though your alternator charges in the daytime, when there is a load on it, the alternator can't bear the load, your alternator maybe weak but not completely bad. You may have to have your connections checked

How long have u got to charge it for for 1st use because I charge it all day when I turn it on the next day the battery kept going down I'm still charging it

A new battery comes charged well enough to start the car, if it keeps going flat u have a problem either with the charging system or a power drain, so once car is turned off sonthing is staying on draing the battery. Or the battery could be faulty but very unlikely. To check the charging start car and put a volt meter on the terminals of the battery should be reading aprox 14.2 v if it only reads 12 something then u have a charging fault. If charging fine then have to test for a power drain and the easiest way to do that is to open bonnet or boot depend where battery is lock the vehicle up and wait about 20 mins for the car to shut down Ecus etc remove earth terminal off battery and put a 12v bulb from the earth terminal of battery and the earth lead if the light shines u have a power drain remove each fuse in turn remember to put it back after until light goes out then u have the offending circuit. Hope this helps

2011 Cadillac SRX will not start! Was running fine, parked it and came back out to move it and it wouldn't start. It would turn on at first but not start and then quickly drained the battery completely. ...

I am betting your alternator is shot and not charging the battery. The symptom would be everything is dead on the dash and lights. Battery will need to be fully charged and alternator replaced. Make sure to have the alternator checked for free at an auto parts store first.

Battery consistently draining

Most likely you've got something draining the battery. Read this post

Battery goes dead while car is sitting

It wouldn't be the starter. It will not draw current when not engaged. Could be a light left on, a trunk light, glove box light, under hood light-an unintended drain, somewhere. Sometimes a penny or something gets stuck in cigar lighter and keeps that circuit on.
You should check if alternator is fully charging up the battery after it has run, and then turned off. But if you don't have a voltmeter handy, try this: When you shut if off to sit overnight, take the negative battery terminal off the battery. When you get ready to start it, hook up the battery and see if battery is no longer weak. If battery is now good, you do have an unintended drain. If battery is weak again, check charging system, battery cables and connections, alternator connections-a loose connection will prevent battery from charging.
If you have a drain, turn everything off and remove key. Pull the bulb out for the underhood light. Take negative off battery again, and hook up a testlight between the negative battery cable terminal and the negative battery post. If something is pulling current, the testlight should be bright. Now at fuse panel under dash, pull fuses one at a time and watch the testlight. If you pull a fuse and the testlight goes off, that circuit has the unintended drain. Check everything on that circuit.
Hope you find the problem. Good luck.

2000 pathfinder battery draining

Sounds like your alternator is doing nothing-the car is running only off the battery. Have your charging system checked-does your battery light stay lit? If that bulb is burnt out, that may be why the charging system is not working. On some charging systems, that bulb is crucial for the alternator to work.
Engine off, a fully charged battery should measure 12.5 volts with a voltmeter. Engine idling, and the voltmeter at the same battery should be showing about 13.5 volts. This tells you the charging system is working.

My 98 lumina has a constant power draw from somewhere. I just replace the battery and had the alt tested (it was good). I have to jump the dang thing every morning but if I drive it enough during the day...

The alternator may charge fine but could drain the battery through a bad diode, have you checked the alt for a bad diode?Disconnect the battery positive cable.Put a regular 12v test light between the battery positive post and the positive battery cable. If the test light is bright you do have a drain,if dim it is OK.A dim light may mean the drain is internal in the battery. If you do have a bright light remove a fuse ,one at a time from the fuse box until the light goes dim.Once dim you have identified the bad circuit. If removing all fuses do not dim the light, disconnect the alt charging wire at the alt,if that dims the light, then you do have a bad diode.DO NOT create a drain(bright light) when checking for the drain by turning on the key or opening a door/trunk etc.
Also,do an overnight battery check by disconnecting the battery overnight,if things are fine the next morning after the battery was disconnected then it is a drain in the vehicle,if the battery is dead even after being disconnected overnight,,then the battery is bad.

The altenator is bad. Not charging the battery and running the car. Once the battery drains the car will die. You can charge the battery and it will run untill it is drained.

You can get the battery load tested at just about any parts store. I would have this done. If it checks out good, get the charging system tested, and if that is good, you could possibly have a draw draining your battery when it's not running.
