Question about 2003 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

1 Answer

Engine jumps/RPMs rise or lower when stopped (with brake).

When I'm stopped at a light or a sign my truck will act like it's about to die, the RPMs will either raise or lower as the truck attempts to jump forward as if it is about to die. No problems when accelorating though. Could this be low transmission fluid or perhaps need a transmission servicing?

Check the vacuum hose first and if it's been over 30,000 miles and you havn't had a transmission service it is a good idea to have that done

Have a 1995 Buick Regal. Car stalls when braking at a stop sign or braking into a left or right turn.RPMs drop to 500 then stalls without warning.Car starts right up with no problem and runs great.

Do you hear a sucking noise from under the hood when you apply the brakes? You could have a bad brake booster venting too much engine vacuum when applying the brakes causing the engine to die.

98 ford escort zx2 dies when it drops below 1000 rpms

I doubt the two problems are related.
The computer uses an idle speed control valve to regulate idle speed. The valve controls the amount of air entering the intake.
You should have a check engine light on and also a stored trouble code for the valve. It could also be a problem with the throttle plate in the throttle body.

Dies in neutral

Without more info it might be hard to figure this one out. I would start by replacing the Idle Air Solenoid. Also check to see if the EGR valve is open.

The other day I noticed that when I pressed on the brake my alero would jump forward a little bit and the rpms would go up. Not real high though. Even when in park the rpms would go up and down but still...

I'm not sure about the Alero, but I had a Ford Aerostar van doing the same thing and it was the power brake booster leaking vacume when the brakes were applied. The engine would speed up every time the brakes were used. Anew booster sloved the problem.

Engine jumps while stopped. RPMs will drop or rise slightly when stopped. Problem does not persist when accelerating though.

Hey there, as far as yuor truck is concerned, you may need to check your throttle position sensor, if your truck is equipped with one, it may be bad and that would make your RPM jump and decrease dramatically....
