Question about 1988 Jeep Cherokee

Alternator is dyin a lot

I have a story to tell so here it goes. I have a 87 jeep cherokee ladero. i am having problems with electrical problems that are basically KILLING my alternator. I had the battery replaced numerous of times and the alternator is a 160 amp alternator i bought with lifetime warranty on it. the alternator has been killed basically three times so far and the most recent was today. the symptoms are simple but kinda unexplainable. the first thing is that what ever it is it is killing the alternator very slowly each time. i never have a problem until i get about 3 or 4 months down the line. what it does is the voltage on the battery indicator with go in and out between 9 volts and right around 13 or 14 volts. once it drops to either 9 or below the machine will not charge at all. after about driving for about 15 mins the machine will start charging for about 10 mins and then go back down again. it will go throught this process for about a month and then will completely kill the alternator. the only fix that i have come up with so for is to replace the alternator. after a replace the alternator everthing is fine for a few months and then the cycle starts all over again. what could directly be killing the alternator but at that slow of a rate???????/

My sons1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the gauges light on and would not start like battery was dead. Had it jump started and it started. When he put in park it stalled jumped again and worked.

Sounds like a charging system problem and the alternator may not be working. The gauge light will come on if the charging gauge is showing low so you will look at the gauges. Have the battery and charging system tested

Could a defective alternator cause fan motor to malfunction on Jeep cherokee?

What I can tell you is an Alternator can produce dirty electricity besides low or high voltage if the embedded regulator malfunctions. How "high tech" your fan motor is probably depends on the fan blower motor resistor. Advanced Climate Control goes beyond the simple setting for low, medium, or high. You can have a good Alternator and blower fan and be the victim of a bad blower fan resistor.

You can get your Alternator checked for free at Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys and it can be checked without removing it from the vehicle.

I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee ladero....Its making rough cackling sounds jst started doing that when i started it up for sounds horrible...but it still drives n crank up...its...

If you have no 'check engine' light, you will need a technician to diagnose it and I would recommend NOT driving it. If, for example, a rod cap has come loose, it will destroy the engine if it gets even looser.
