Egk valve 1 my engine light went on and the mechanic says I need a egk valve. Either cleaning it or replacing it. Is this hard to do myself? How would I do it? He said it would take him 3 hrs. work time. 2 I have the code for my radio, but still can't get it to work. My radio has a cassette player so I don't know which buttons to push and which control to start the process. Can you help? Mike Thanks

Most of the vent valves are not hard to replace. They are located near the fill tube for the gas tank. Most cars are behind the wheel well. I can usually change them in about 1/2 hour.

Sounds like you will have to replace the computer. The mechanic should have cleared the check engine light after he worked on it.

Have you had it analyzed at autozone did any codes get displayed?

Running rough and misfiring is usually a one or more bad spark plug wires. Don't go back to that dealer. Replace the wires or have your mechanic do it for you. If you replace them, take one off at a time and install the new one. If you put the wires back on in the wrong order, it will misfire.

buy a can of throttle body/carby cleaner take the air filter hose off the throttle body start the car and just keep spraying it in there and keep reving the engine as it will stall if you dont, that stuff will clean the inside of your engine real good plus its quicker and cheaper

IT IS LOCATED ON THE FRONT OF THE FRONT CYLINDER HEAD(BELT END) OF ENGINE..JUST ABOVE ALTERNATOR..2 BOLTS HOLD IT TO HEAD,A METAL TUBE COMES OFF IT..1 ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR..MORE LIKELY ELECTRICAL SIDE OF VALVE IS DEFECTIVE(SOLENOID)
..RECOMMEND REPLACING VALVE..ABOUT 120 BUCKS FROM DEALER..YOU WILL NEED A NEW TUBE GASKET AND NEED TO DISCONNECT BATTERY WHILE REPLACING..HAVE SEEN CODES RETURN EVEN REPLACING A DEFECTIVE VALVE..WAS A TECH TIP FROM CHRYSLER ENGINEERING..I HOPE THIS HELPS

I had this problem with my 1999 alero i took it apart and investigated it myself because i have been a mechanic for 25 years now but i had to replace the starter relay the whole ignition system and believe it or not new valves. After I replaced all of those my alero drove better then eer and the lights never went back on or any of the other lights....

What i did is remove the check engine bulb coz even if you change the knock sensor the light will still go on coz our engine is a bit old.

check the mass air flow sensor at the clean air intake!!
