Question about 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

1 Answer

Engine revs up

On cold mornings, when I start my 2004 Tahoe I've noticed that the engine will rev up by itself then go down where it seems like it's going to cut off but it doesn't. Then when I put it in Drive it acts as if it's going to cut off and shakes a little before driving normally. It only does this on cold mornings. What can be the problem? HELP!

That happened to my moms Dodge Dakota Sport but it got to the point where it did cut out and all she needed to do was change the air filter

My 2004 mondeo 1.8 16 v is playin up firstly when you start it up revs are on 1500 revs but then calms down to just under 1000 revs and when youd accelarate car just wants to slow down and also steering...

starting on very cold mornings ,the engine will run at high rpms (just like you have a choke on) and then will after a minute or two return to idle rpms( most cars is around 850-900)
If you have a hydraulic clutch and you have never changed the fluid then I suggest that you have it done as the fluid is probably freezing the water content in it ( brake fluid is hygroscopic-- attracts moisture from the air)
Check the linkage adjustments for dirt and other foreign objects stopping full movement or if the lever is direct into the top of the box then check the gear lever pivot at the top of the box for loose or adjustment.
If you have a cable clutch ,consider replacing the cable.

Renault megane tourer sport 1.6 2004 - when i start the car either in the morning or when it has been stood a short while, it makes a loud noise, like a transit van or a tractor. it is only for a few

it looks like u have bad spark plugs, mainly when the car is cold .this noise seems to be backfire coming thru air fllter casing or the accessory belts. also check your engine oil quality-replace if necessary

03 corolla petrol revs up on its own when idling and then settles down again

R u start the car in cold morning or any cold condition? If so, it is normal revs up itself. Sometimes I see some cars revs up to 2000 rpm for 2 to 5 mins, then drop down to 1000 rpm.

My opel Corsa lite Revs itself while idling or when I press the clutch while driving. The rpm stays @ 2.. What is the cause of this

A similar thing happend to me turns out it was the idle rev cold switch thing>
basically the switch which provides more fuel and revs when the car is cold, so that when you start the car it doesnt just die off.
the switch itself is a bit mechanical and is perhaps jammed on the full on position. If it happens more when the car heats up. then it is this switch.

what you can do is start your car one cold morning and see how high the revs are, if its still high then its probablly not the switch

I have a 2004 Tahoe and noticed that when operating the heater function this morning, the air was cold. When I drove it for a bit, it started to get warm again. Also, noticed the temp. going over normal...

head gasket leak will act that way when an if it gets bad will smoke white exhaust.will also leak antifreeze into oil so watch oil an frequent oil changes might extend time but will ultimately need new headgasket to avoid damage to engine...think about repairing before damage 2engine.
