I just bought the bug. Some of the control buttons on the radio didn't work, such as, fad, treble, and balance. Within 2 weeks all of the remaining buttons have quit. Every now and then the casette kicks in on its own. Presently the AM radio is only functioning. Could it be possesed? Any suggestions, or should I contact my Pastor.

It has to be the wrong code. You have to take in to the VW dealership, (because of so many stolen radios), they will have to verify your registration. Then they will remove your radio, get the serial number put it in to VW hub<( dealership only VW repair site), and retrieve the correct code. Even though the code shown is in your owners manual should have been the correct code sometimes radios get switched. Question at the end you said you pressed seek- did you hold the right lower arrow button, (scan), in till radio began to play?
Best way to reset the electronic panel yourself would be to disconnect the negative battery cable for 10mins. After you reconnect, the panel should reset itself. You will lose all prior settings but they should work. In unsuccessful, the control panel may need replacement. Best of luck with your problem.
I have come to find out that in the 90's auto makers started installing factory amplifiers in their cars so they could use low wattage stereos in the dash. It's usually a blue wire off the stereo that runs the amp, maybe it couldve become disconnected? I also know that even if you put in an after market stereo, this wire must be hooked up or you'll get no sound from the speakers. hope this helps.
