Does 98 Ford Expedition 2WD have a front end differential?

No, there is no need for a differential for wheels that are not drive wheels. Differentials are reserved for driven wheels. Front wheel drive cars have a differential packed inside the transaxle case.

Is my 98 ford taurus rear wheel?

If you want to know if it is rear wheel drive, then I would say no. It is front wheel drive. One can tell by looking at the halfshafts that lead to the wheels in the front vs. the back wheel area.

My 97 ford expadition sounds like its locking in to 4weel drive and the light on the dash gose on but it dosent work

If i'm not mistaken the 97 Expadition's have automatic locking hubs and they are the most likely problem. To find out for sure you need to use a chain or strap strong enough to fasten to a tree or some other object that will not move lock in the 4wd and have some one watch the front drive shaft while you give enough gas to make the tires spin, if the front drive shaft spins and the front tires don't you have a bad hub if it does not your transfer case is not engaging which is most likely a bad servo motor. I hope this helps you with your problem.
