Vehicle surges while stopped

Howdy all - I have 2003 zts, i have recently given it to my daughter to drive - she was complaining that the vehicle would surge forward while stopped at a stop light, etc. I replaced the O2 sensors, plugs and wires, still doing the same thing - any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you

When driving my daughters 2004 Dodge stratus, 4 cyl it will start choking and surging when you begin to stop, once you put it in park and press gas peddle it will stop and drives good until you stop

check for a faulty /loose vacuum hose to the brake booster or a faulty brake booster diaphragm. From you description it is happening when your foot is on the brake and slowing down and there is a vacuum leak that is upsetting the mixture for the engine.

Car surging at idle, and making humming noise.

I can relate my experience with a similar noise on my 1994 car with Traction control. A electric valve in the air intake made a "Hum" or "Buzzing" noise when malfunctioning. For my car, the valve was suppose to reduce engine RPM so the wheel spin was stopped by choking off the air to the engine.
So the electric valve on your engine may be getting a bad signal from the Traction control system especially since you are not applying power. Or simply the electric contacts in the part you mention are worn out and "buzzing" because the contact points are burned out and can not connect.

When I brake the car surges. Feels like disks are warped but has recently had new brakes. This started surging about 8 months after the brakes were replaced. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator??

If the vehicle only surges when braking sounds like you have a brake pulsation. If the brakes have become overheated like when driving down a mountain this can warp the brake rotors. They will need to be machined or replaced.

Check for stuck throttle plate. Check pcv hose that goes to the intake manifold. They get soft and leak, check while running.

How reliable is the Ford Focus?

Reliability of a car is all bases on experiences of owners with their respectible vehicles. In my opinion they are good car to drive for 50,000 miles, after that period they start giving you trouble. It is costly to repair it and the vehicle depreciation value is very high. Good luck

My 2003 Escape has a history P0351 and P0301. This vehicle is also surging at times, at idle or around 40mph. I've changed the affected coil and intake gaskets. Spark Plugs recently replaced. Any...

I had the same problem and replaced the spark plugs, and also the tubes that run from the coils to the spark plugs. there is a spring inside the tubes that was brooken and that fixed the problem.

Slow acceleration from stop and when driving (trying to pass)

I have the same car. So far no problems with the Transmision. I had the Trans oil change out every 60 K Sure sounds like you need to get the Transmision checked. Is the fault light on. I have invested ina fault code reader sure is worth it.
Good luck.  Vilmos
