Need to know where to find the crankshaft position sensor on a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?

On 2.2 models remove starter. disconnect 7x crankshaft position sensor wiring harness.remove sensor mounting bolt, with draw sensor, replace o ring and lightly lubricate it with oil.... on 6 cylinder models,..remove the drive belt, jack up car, remove crankshaft pulley. remove sensor bolt and pull out.( noting the wiring harness for installation).

    if its a 3.1, it is in back of engine about 2 inches from belt area, its plastic with wires to it. it can break very easily, but it is not hard to change.

2006 chevy trailblazer crankshaft position sensor location


I'm not sure of engine size, I looked at info for 6 cylinder. Don't know if it makes a difference? My info also talked about crankshaft variation relearn procedure after replacing.

Only has one crankshaft position sensor ,an cam sensors . To change the crank sensor u would have to pull the starter ,located above starter .

here are illustrations of the CKP (crankshaft position) sensor in 2.3L and 3.0L.

Note: In the bottom of the 2.3L drawing says Trottle Position (TP) Sensor, this is wrong, It should say CKP Sensor.


2.3L Engine


The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located to the left of the crankshaft pulley.

The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located just behind the crankshaft pulley on engine block.

I need to know where the location of the crankshaft position sensor for my 2001 chevrolet 3500 8.1L gas engine.


CKP SENSOR IS LOCATED BEHIND STARTER IF ITS NOT BEHIND STARTER LOOK AROUND CRANKSHAFT PULLEY. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE STARTER TO GET TO IT IF IT LOCATED THERE.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located under hood, center, rear engine area, below ingnition coil pack and DIS module, mounted in engine block.

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
A magnetic crankshaft sensor (Hall Effect switch) is used which is remotely mounted on the opposite side of the engine from the DIS/IC module. The sensor protrudes in to the engine block, within about 0.050 in. (1.27mm) of the crankshaft reluctor.
