Question about 1997 Jaguar XJ6

1 Answer

1997 Jaguar mirrors

Thank you, that will surely help. Part of my issue is understanding just how to remove the old ones. Do I simply apply as much even pressure as I can to opposing sides and attempt to just pull them off?

Hi steve it must be the painted or chrome back you want to remove from the door mirror if it is,  try pushing it out with a long screwdriver from the glass side  or you will have to remove the glass to push it out. of  course if it is damaged just dig in and pull it out.

Remove the interior door cover and you should be able to access the nuts that hold the mirror in place. Remove the nuts and old mirror than install the new one and replace the cover.

How do you get the disk out of the mirror?

ok first of all there should be a set screw that is clearly visible or it nearby pops out with the use of a flat head screwdriver but before removing the disk the use of a razor blade is required t remove the old glue always in an away from your body when doing so 2nd rear view mirror glue is available at the local parts store for around $5.00 remove the residue from the windshield as well and keep a few lengths of tape preopened to use when you glue the disk up { be sure to mark the outside of the window by drawing around the old imprint where the disk once stood open the package and use the cleaner on both windshield and disk let stand as required then making sure the disk is in the upright position apply the glue and tape it to the windshield and let stand overnight before applying the mirror make sure the disk is the right way up so the mirror will fit over the top and down onto the disk not from up under it

Replace driver side mirror

Go to local auto glass shop or auto supply store. Order a new mirror (not expensive). Ask also for the proper adhesive.

Put on some thick gloves (use pliers if needed) and remove the old glass.
Remove old adhesive from the mirror frame.
Apply adhesive to frame
Put new part in place and hold for a few seconds (read adhesive instructions).

That is it.
