Question about 2000 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

Car won't start

I have a 2000 Altima. When I turned the car on my battery and emergency break light came on. I drove the car for about 30 minutes and then all the lights started flashing then it died. What do you think it's wrong with the car?

It sounds like your battery has had it! IF you can jump start it, try to go to a battery store or a service garage to have your battery and alternator checked. If no other warning lights were previously on, it is possible that the battery just up and died. Otherwise, I would suspect the alternator.
Also, make sure teh parking brake is NOT engaged while driving.

Really need more info here. Does the engine turn over? If so check all your connections again. Also check plug and coil wires and distributor cap. If engine won't turn over it's probably the battery.

Buy yourself a volmeter ($10 at walmart) and chevk the voltage if the battery. If the battery was on its way out then yes, cold weather will affect it. Do your headlights go on?. Do the interior lights go on...are the lights dim...you can get a battery at cistco, walmart, or any auto parts store. Good luck

I have a 2005 scionxb an dit won't always start. It doesn't make any noise when you turn the key. The battery is fine. The radio will not come on but the windows work.

There might be a ground wire loose or any of the positive wires coming off the battery might also be loose or coroded. That can also be part of your prior fuse problem. If its the same fuse that blows, that could be where your entire problem existes.

hand it over to a mechanic or Nissan. If you recently had an M.O.T and it went of quickly then ask for a refund, even better, ask him to take a look at the car again

Battery light means the alternator is not charging so if you keep driving it eventually the battery will die. The brake light may be on if the emergency brake lever is pulled even a little bit.

The clicking sound you hear when you turn the key is the starter solenoid trying to apply voltage to the starter. Try this, if you can see the starter tap it with a hammer and then try to start the car. this is an emergency make do.

The solenoid is a heavy duty relay that is capable of switching the high current requirements of the starter (up to 70 - 100 amps).

If it's clicking its closing. By the way a new starter will come with a new solenoid

I just replaced my starter in my F-150 today for the exact same problem. Cost $100

Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh
