Could be a few different things; is there slush or snow built-up in the wheel wells? If not, check the power steering fluid level.

1998 Dodge Stratus rubbing noise when turning. Sounds like rubber against metal. No popping noise.

It could be several things ....
Wheel bearings - jack the front driver side up. First ... just rotate the wheel ... you should hear NOTHING. Any noise menas there is probably a wheel bearing/hub issue. Now take hold of the tire in the 9am and 3pm positions. Try to push/pull from side to side ... if there is any "play" in the wheel the bearings are going.
Brake line interference - a lot of brake lines have a plastic sheath in the wheel well area ... check to see that the line/plastic sheath shows no wear when you have the wheel off...that might cause the issue.
Steering linkage - even though the upper control arms were recently replaced look at all the ball joints and grab hold of them and see if there is any play/movement.
Repeat on the passenger side..
Good luck on your troubleshooting

There is a noise coming from the right-front wheel area during a left turn. It almost sounds like a tire-rub on the inner wheel-well cover, but it also makes this same noise when stationary while turning...

I had this same problem and the dealer could not reproduce the noise when I would take it in to get looked at. (during the day when the temperature was warm) So I decided to leave it over night and they test drove it in the morning when the temperature was cold and they heard the noise. It ended up bing the steering rack.

I have a 94 ford mustang. I hear a bad "rubbing noise" in the front end and also a whine from the power steering pump. The steering seems to be ok, but people are telling me i need a new power steering...

It sounds like you need to replace it or you can get your power steering pump flushed out and give that a try. As for the rubbing noise I need more info. What are you doing to make it do that noise? Do you know where in the front?

I hear a growling noise in the steering wheel every time I turn a corner, back up and turn the wheel, or turn into a parking space. Most of the time it is when I turn the wheel to the left. All fluids have...

Yes. Hi. the plastic trim around the base of the steering wheel and the steering column have an imperfection in one area that causes them to rub in a certain spot every time, are out of place slightly or are for some other reason making contact and creating a noise. Get right down there and turn the wheel and look for a rub. When you spot it use a sharp razor blade knife to trim it a wee bit. J.
or, you have an issue with the steering shaft somewhere.

Steering wheel make a noise when turn left

its due to low/no fluid level in the power steering reservoir.Check the fluid in the power steering. If it is low the car will make noise when you turn the wheel. the internal parts gets rubbed hard and noise occurs. refill the fluid and let it reset for some time then try it will get the fluency to move smooth and noise will get stopped. -------- This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution if helped.thank you for using fixya.

1998 olds cutlass makes a rubbing noise when steering wheel is turned to the left or to the right.

Sounds like the plastic inner fender is loose, or hanging and the wheel is touching it while driving. While the car is parked, try turning the wheel all the way to the left, then look under the left fender, behind the wheel to see if there is anything hanging or in the way. If not then turn the wheel all the way to the right, and check under the right fender and wheel.

Rubbing or grinding noise in steering wheel

Hi, this could be a combination of many issues. i would check the following.

Check the strut mounts. there could be some damage here concerning the mounts. i would also check the control arm bushings as well. check for damage here. I would also inspect the CCV half Shaft as well. this is a known problem spot(re manufactured)CCT.

The last problem spot here will be the actual wheel bearings in the front. they may be worn or dry. this could cause the symptoms you stated as well.

you will find the issue in one or all of the above problem spots stated.

Please rate and god bless:)

Noise coming from front of car

It sounds exactly like a wheel bearing problem. The right side its seems would be the problem. When you turn right it puts more pressure on the bad bearing making it louder. I would suggest replacing both. If on is gone the other one isn't far off. Hope this helps
