How do I remove the alternator on a 1990 bmw 750il?

Disconnect negative battery cable, disconnect wiring to altenator, then remove 3 bolts holding on altenator.
To reinstall you can move an idler pulley that will make putting the belt back on easier.

I have a 2001 750il. The auto transmission is

Hello
I do not know how your mechanic making that judgement , but most probably it could be repaired . You will know for sure after dismantelling the transmission and checking the interior parts of it.
Usually the vibration comes from the Transmission convertor and that happens if low on oil or oil pressure is law.
You will need to check the status of oil and filter before you do any thing as some times if the filter is in need of change , could do that too.
