Does a 1997 Gmc jimmy have back bums or pads

You mean drums? Depends on the vehicle options but should be rotors/pads. Easy to check - look through the wheel spokes and if pads, you should see the rotor.

My 2000 GMC Jimmy will not start. Changed the starter fuse and it worked for 2 starts and went back to not even tring to crank over. Checked the new fuse it was already blown...changed it again and it will...

Hi:
You really need to remove your starter and have it tested. If the fuse is blowing, then something, most likely the starter, is drawing too much current. Most places like auto zone will test your starter for free, so other than your effort to remove it, it will be a cheap thing to do, and it is most likely the cause.

2000 gmc jimmy slt 4 wheel lights all come on intermittently

Before you go spending money, here's what you should do.
On the passenger side, remove the right lower hinge trim panel (right next to the door) behind you'll find the 4x4 module.
disconnect the 2 plugs for about 30 seconds (module have tendency of locking up)
IMPORTANT... look at the plugs for signs of corrosion (very common)
if OK, then plug them back in and try to Switch to 4 hi.
If OK, no further action needed.
If not, then the system needs to be diagnosed, the module stores the failed code, and a scanner is a must. - Another thing to try is to reset the TCM (transfer case control module). Disconnect the ATC fuse in the under hood fuse block for 1 minute to clear the codes. Cycle the ignition key on and off 5 times. Reinstall the fuse. Recheck 4x4 operation.
Use the Owner's Manual to manually go into neutral and reset to 2WD HI. But then look under the hood check the fuses or look for wiring that may have come unplugged.

4wd problem

While you have a helper try to shift to 4x4, get under the truck and tap the shift motor with a mallet.Sometimes the shift motors stick if they haven't been used in a while. If this doesn't work you might have to replace the transfer case shift motor.

Won't shift into 4 wheel drive mode at all / 2000 GMC Jimmy SLT

I have had the same problem with my 2000 jimmy. Disconnect the battery for approx 1 minute and then reconnect, this should reset the computer. It has worked for me every time. I was told it was a glitch with GMC.

4 wd low range will sometimes engage 4wd high will never engage

I had a very similar problem with my 98 gmc 2500. The 4 low would engage - though the upshifts were erratic, but no 4 high though the light sometimes came on. I changed out the electric shift solenoid or whatever it is called, on the transfer case and it worked fine after that. A fairly simple fix that can be done in 15 minutes. Hope this helps.
