I had similar fault
The mechanic said it wasa wireing fault , no problem to run the car and he did say they could find the fault but it may taake a week in the garage at rediculas price , I continued to drive it for 3 more years with no problem
Autozone or other auto parts stores cant do it for you?? if not try a local mecanic shop that has a machine that will take it off

You need to check the tcm for codes too. The s3 light is like the check engine light for the tcm. The VSS code might be your problem.
