If you cant open it from inside or out side it has to be latch assy. that locks on the body . the part that is bad is inside the door there should be 3 boltz phillips screwdriver that you can see from outside . you wil have to remove door panel then there is connecting rods the part is about 50.00 used wreckcars@aol.com. if needed

CAUTION LOCKING WITH REAR DOOR CHILDPROTECTORS Turn the lock knob to the "LOCK" position as shown on the label. This feature allows you to lock a rear door so it can be opened from the outside only, not from inside. We recommend using this feature.... the link is a copy of your owners manual

all cars , have child protection. for 20 years now.
read the operators guide. it's in the glove box , on door locks
the driver can block and prevent passengers in all rear areas from egress.

they never knew you'd put up a barrier.
How would they, that is all custom modifications.

Child Protection Door Lock
The rear doors of your vehicle are equipped with child
protection locks. If you push up on the lever on the open
edge of the door it cannot be opened from the inside of
the vehicle. Push the lever down to disengage the child
protection locks.

in your manual read page 36, see photos there too.
page 38 , shows what to do if stuck inside.

all in the manual.

Dont work rear door locks

Your Tempo is equipped with early child-proof rear door locks...(cannot open from the inside when locked) Open the doors from the outside and look near the door catch for a small switch that moves back and forth...if still labeled it should show "Lock...Unlock" marks...leave on unlock for normal opening from inside. Hope this helps.

My back doors wont open

If your back doors won't open from the inside then the child proof locks maybe turned on. Open the door from the outside and look at the edge of the door near the lock for a small lever or screw setting for the child proof lock. Tun off the child proof lock and then you can open the back door from the inside.

Door on 95 geo metro 4 door won't close because the child proof lock in on and I can't get it to go off. Door won't stay shut. Any ideas how to fix this?

Your childproof lock have nothing to do with the latch not closing. It only makes it where you can not open the door from the inside. I would think you are in need of a new latch.

First read the owners manual.
Second open the rear doors and take a look at the end of the doors, not the inside and outside, look at the and see if there is a child proof engagement switch. Thgis keeps kids from opening the doors and windows. There may be a switch on the master control as well.
While they are all over 10, hence subject to failure, the rear windows are used so seldom that failure is unlikely.

The passenger rear door on the left will not open...

I don't believe I have seen a Volvo four door hatch-back here in the US, but my guess would be child-proof locks on the rear. Open the front doors and look for any switches on the front edge of the back doors. If there aren't any, check the owner's manual before contacting your dealer.
