Hi a_rush911,

The manual can be had at most any auto parts store. It's not going to fix a badly slipping tranny.

I don't think you're going to find a "free" transmission that's worth the trouble - - it's one of those "gotta-have items. Even the junkyard parts aren't free, and I wouldn't expect to find a tranny that works in a junkyard (they tend to get pulled early-on if they're any good).

You probably want to look for local sources of rebuilt transmissions, either online or in the phonebook.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it accordingly.

Thanks in-advance,

Jon

There isn't much you can do about that problem. You might try
changing the fluid and filter in the tranny but it is likely you will need the trans rebuilt. Good luck. Neil W.

Slipping transmission

The only fix for that, is to rebuild it

When you changed the fluid, it most likely
slipped worse, whether you were aware of it or not,at the time.

All of a sudden my car 1997 ford taurus wont shift into drive or reverse checked fluid level its ok what is the problem?

Is the fluid level high? Most of the time when you have a no pull condition it is a stripped pump shaft or the pump drive splines in the torque converter. Cold also be a stripped or broken axle ( will roll in park if this is the case) or a problem with the forward clutches or splines bad on lower planetary. So unless an axle is bad the transmission will need to come out to be repaired.

It is most likely a bad clutch pack, you may need a transmission overhaul to repair the problem, sorry.

Transmission started slipping in final drive.

I am a ford tech and once this transmission starts slipping in OD u are going to need an overhaul, changing the fluid won't correct the problem.

When my 99 ford taurus is in drive it revs but

Check your transmission oil...
Check it for...
1. Correct leve. (follow directions in manual)
2. Right colour should be light red or yellow (not Brown)
3. Smell, should be not unpleasant not burnt or bad.

If you find any of these things, the transmission is slipping, probably the forward clutch. Drain the oil into a clean pan and check it for black flecks of friction material, pieces of rubber, and metal filings.

This inspection will confirm the diagnosis of a failed transmission. If so, the transmission will need a rebuild or an exchange unit fitted..

My 1997 ford taurus transmission slips when it shifts to second

this is caused by a piston in the transmission that has a crack in it once it warms up the crack seals and operates normally.being cold the crack opens up allowing fluid to flow past it. take to trans shop as soon as you can, will be minimum repair if it has not caused further damage in the transmission.

Check to make sure you are not low on ATF, otherwise you might need bands adjusted by transmission tech.
