Question about 1985 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

1985 Pontiac Firebird doors are sagging.

Driver and passenger doors re sagging, but drivers side is really the worst off. I have been told that replacing the pins and bushings will cure the problem, and that this is also standard maintenance on such a car. What is the process involved in going about this task?

Are the hinges as easy to find as the pins and bushings? (I found the pins and bushings at the local Advance Auto Parts). Are there any special tools or knowledge reuired, or is it a simple replacement job?

Yes the door sag on this old of a car with such heavy doors (I know I had them off my car) is normal, think of the thousands of times the doors have been opened! I think u will find that the whole hinge will need to changed.

You should replace the bolts for the hinges. This should fix your problem.

Passenger side window does not work from either the drivers side switch or the passengers side switch.I have replaced the window motor.

Did you check to see if you had power and ground to the window motor before you replaced it? A faulty master switch (driver door) will cut power and/or ground from BOTH switches.

Also, a common fault is the wires get broken in the umbilical between the driver door and the body. If the driver window works OK, then either the TAN or the LIGHT BLUE wire could be broken. This will keep the passenger window from working from EITHER switch.

1999 trans am passenger window not working where are fuses and relays..drivers side works

Drivers side on the side of the dash. When you open the drivers door you will see it on the side ,it will be position # 15 and its a circut breaker which means if the drivers side works the passenger one will as well.. They both use the same circut breaker. I suggest checking the wires in the rubber boot between the passenger door and the body in the door jamb area the wires are light blue and the other is tan if my memory serves me correctly. good luck

Driver side door lock does not work

If the side door does not work the central unit may be defective or the motor in the doors are not working you need to get it serviced
