Question about 1997 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

Doors/Locks I have a 1997 chevy suburban, and I have two issues with doors and locks. Issue number one is that the left door on the back of my suburban will not open. I have tried pushing down on the lever up top connected to the rod to release the door and still nothing. Also the door behind the driver side door will not lock and unlock electically with switch or fob. Any help is greatly apperciated.

Pull drivers rear door panel off
1. Remove door lock solenoid and plug it into another door to see if it works
2. If you can reach inside the door to the final mechanism that everything pushes on, push it yourself to see if it works
3. Also look on side of door for possible child saftey lock switch

The power door locks went out

If none of the door lock actuators operate when you try the switches at the doors, check the fuse first. If it's blown, replace it. If ok, it is probably the drivers door control switch as it feeds all the other doors switches and actuators.

I would check the relay for the locks. Has this been a recent issue?

Power door locks won't unlock + tailgate won't open

your issue involves the master control switch panel on the drivers side and or the passenger side as well some how the contact inside the switch assembly has either shorted out or no longer makes contact for the unlock side of the circuit. replace the drivers side panel switchs it's either a series of switc hs or mostimes one sigle board of switchs. you are better off going to an auto parts store rather than a GM dealership this will save you quite a bit on cash on the parts. now as to the rear tailgate. if it is electronic controled and there is an issue with the master switch you can,t manually unlock it because of a safty issue built in the system. you can manually unlock the passenger compartment doors for thew same reasons of safety but doesn't apply to the tailgate. just replace the parts and this will take care of the problem

Need steps to reprogram chevy suburban 1997 keyless entery

1. Locate the Data Link Port. It is located under dash drivers side. Be sure you know
which pins are 8 and 4.

(Note port is wider at top) Your OBDII port will not
have numbers, use the for reference.

2. Make sure there are metal contact pins in terminals 8 and 4. Connect 8 to 4 with a
suitable jumper wire (leave the jumper wire connected throughout the programming
procedure). Make sure you know which terminals are 8 and 4. The vehicle will respond
by locking and unlocking the
doors to signify entering of programming mode.

3. Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together on the first transmitter to
be programmed. After about 15 seconds, the vehicle will respond by locking and
unlocking the doors. Release the buttons on the transmitter.

4. Within one minute, repeat the previous step on the remaining transmitters to be
programmed.

5. Remove jumper wire applied to the OBDII Port.
