Question about 1997 Ford F250 SuperCab

1 Answer

How do I program the keyless fob for my 1997 F250 pickup truck?

I have acquired a used keyless fob for my 1997 Ford F250 pickup truck to replace one that was accidently run over and squashed. Can anyone tell me how to go about programming this used fob? Do I have to program my existing fob along with the "new" fob at the same time so they are both programmed to the same codes?

Thanks for trying but the 1997 F250 is does not use the key turning method for programming the fob. All I know is that there are a couple of electrical terminals in a box under the hood that have to be shorted out to get the fobs to reprogram. But I have no idea which box or which terminals in the box have to be shorted. I believe this applies to F250 models from 1994 to 1997. Can anyone else help? Thanks.

Please see comments appended to my original request for help. This year and model of Ford pickup truck does not use the key cycle program. This model apparently requires two terminals to be shorted out in a box located under the hood. Can anyone else help me on this problem? Thanks.

I will check it out and get back to you. Thanks for your patience.

Thank you for sending me the alternate approach for the 1996. I will try them both out and see which one works. Right now my truck is under about 2 feet of snow so it will be a few days before I shovel my way out to it. Again, thanks for bearing with me.

yes this is a key cycle program.

    Programming

NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed at the
    same time.

To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP
    module, perform the following steps:

    1. Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.

    2. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN five times within ten seconds,
ending in RUN. If the RAP module has successfully entered program mode, it will
lock and then unlock all doors.

    3. Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will
lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has
    been programmed.

    4. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter,
wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to
respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.

    5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes
after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has
been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors
    one last time to confirm.

Is this an early production 97 because the procedure I sent is directly out of the 97 shop manual.

The procedure for the 96 is as you described. The plug is located at the module which is under the inst panel just to the right of the steering column near drivers foot area
To program (or reprogram) transmitter(s) into the remote entry receiver
    module, perform the following steps:

    1. Turn key to the ON or ON/ACCESSORY position and momentarily short the two
terminals of the program connector (C4) (a two-pin connector taped to the wire
assembly connected to the remote entry receiver module, approximately 6 inches
from the remote entry receiver module). All doors should lock then unlock.
      Remove shorting pin.

    1. Press any button on transmitter. All doors should lock then unlock to verify
that the transmitter has been programmed. If door locks do not respond, press
button again (up to three times maximum with the same
      transmitter).

    1. Repeat Step 2 to program additional transmitters into the remote entry
receiver module (up to four transmitters maximum).

    1. Key off. All doors should lock then unlock.

    1. Check operation

The door locks on my F250 work intermittently when using the keyless entry fob. Many times I must manually lock the door after locking with the fob. Do you have some idea what is the prob?

I had this problem on my exploder. From what I remember I located the keyless entry receiver underneath the drivers side dashboard there should be a box with the name SIEMENS on it. This is your keyless entry receiver. Unplug the unit for about 1 hour ( do not know why for an hour ) and plug back in after 1 hour. Should work fine after that.

I need to prograhm the key fob and also get the keypad code for the keyless entry

To program the fob; close all doors, unlock with door switch, turn key from off to on (without starting car) 8 times, ending in the on pos, the locks should lock and unlock then press the lock button on the fob, turn the key back. That should do it, if you get nothing, replace the battery in the fob. The keypad code is only retrievable through a scan tool. The dealer will charge a half hour to do that even though it takes less than 5 mins.
