Is the car a manual or automatic, 4 or 6 cyl? If it is a manual trans the hard shift could be due to worn shift forks which were rather common in these cars, had them go out in my 90 GT a few years ago. Could also be low on lube or the wrong lube. To check the lube on a manual trans car remove the speedometer drive which is on the top of the trans. The fluid should be at the bottom of the gear on the drive. The proper fluid is ATF not heavy gear oil that ends up getting put in. Hope this helps

Got 02 Taurus and transmission light on but it changing no problem

the transmission light in some vehicles may also serve as a maintenance reminder to let you know it is time to check or change your transmission fluid, or to take your vehicle to the dealer for regular maintenance. A problem with a transmission temperature sender may be the culprit if the light comes on or flashes only before the vehicle has warmed up to operating temperature. A light that flickers or comes on only when hitting bumps on the roadway may indicate a loose transmission wiring connection or a bare wire. Good-Day!

Sometimes the car won't start and the dash lights and the radio lights flicker

Best place to start is the positive lead on the battery . Remove the lead and clean battery pole and terminal using sand paper until you have shiny syrfaces. Replace the lead and tighten the terminal . Check the battery for charge condition as what you describe indicates a flat battery

Backup light wont come on when in use, which fuse would I check

Owners manual should show it, and don't forget to look under hood in fuse/relay box on drivers side fender area. They are labeled on underside of cover. motor1258_5.jpgAlso just so you are aware, the possibility of neutral/reverse switch on transmission comes in to play if you have same as in picture showing the switch on transmission. Sometimes if you have someone stand behind and watch for back-up light to flicker as you move shifter slowly through gears will help as well. When switch gets faulty the back-up lights may come on when shifter not quite in reverse, so try moving it slightly to see if they flicker on/off anywhere in the area of reverse. Foot on the brake of course.

1997 jeep grand cheerkee tunes over but won,t start no fire from coil to distributor

So you have B+ to coil but no B+ from coil to distributor. Sounds like the ignition module.
Its not triggering coil to fire . Double check it with a test light at negative side of coil and then to ground.crank the vehicle if light flickers its ok if not its your culprit.
Should light flicker then test its the wires from coil to distributor, distributor , rotor and plug wires.
Honestly if the light flickers your not losing anything by replaceing the items from the coil tower to the plugs.

Transmission Light & Dashboard Flickering

Todays transmissions are something you really don't want to neglect, as it gets pretty expensive. Yes there are speed sensors, solenoids etc, that are electronically controlled, that can be causing that. Personally I would get it in to a dealer, and have it scanned & diagnosed a.s.a.p. to avoid making a small problem, a big problem. Is that powertrain not still under warranty?
