(98 Honda Accord Brake light

My brake light comes on nwith a fast accleration, turning sharp corners or hard braking. After each time the light eventually goes out. Takes about a min for the light to go out, but it does go out. My reservoir is full! Anybody have any ideas?

Since I wrote up this problem. I have driven the car and the light hasn't come on as yet. As I said all I did was remove the cap and check the fluid level and it was ok.

Now I have driven the car and made fast acclerations and sharp turns and no light? I agree with you that the cap could be the problem. However in my case when the light came on it wasn't to long afterwards that it went back out. That is why I thought it was the fluid level. The light never did stay on long.

I really appreciate your response and I will keep close tabs on the light, if it comes on again and then goes out in about a 30 second period of time I will let you know. Can you think of anything else that could cause this , or would it still be a bad float and switch?

Unplug the wires going to the brake master cap. if the light quits coming on you have a bad brake master cap and float. replace the cap with a dealer part. dont just leave it unplugged it can cause other problems. I have replaced alot of these caps.

Brake sensor light comes on and goes off

this sounds like the brake fluid level sensor in the master cylinder is indicating the fluid level is low. check the brakes to see if they need servicing as well as check for any brake fluid leaks. if these are good top up the master cylinder. sometimes the sensors stick and just need to be tapped loose.

All the elecrical cuts out while acclerating. Lights, heater motor, emmissions light comes on. Once I get to speed everything goes back to normal. Ehgine has just started misfiring, seems to cut th

Here is something that might be related to your issue, carefully inspect fuse box under dash, driver side. See if it is wet/moist with oily liquid on fuse side and wire side behind. If it is, its brake fluid from the brake master pressure switch that has failed causing brake fluid to be pushed thru the wiring all the way to the fuse box , shorting out the electrical system. The repair would require replacing the brake master pressure switch with an updated pigtail (supplied with new switch), and replacing the complete fuse box assembly, and I would recommend cutting and splicing new wiring from the brake pressure switch to the fuse box.

Brake light comes on and off. With two exclamations above it.

You are probably a little low on brake fluid. There is a float in the reservoir of the master cylinder that senses the level, when the fluid sloshes to one side when you make a corner, the float goes down slightly.

Every time I stop and then excelerate on my 2004 sienna the brake light come on for about 30 seconds and then goes off- it does that when I turn a corner too... any suggestions?

check that the brake fluid reservoir is full of brake fluid. There is usually a float switch in the reservoir which turns on the brake light when the reservoir is near empty. the float will react to accel/decel and turns.

Left blinker flash fast, hit brake left blinker goes out left taillight goes out but both backup lights come on

Usually a fast flashing signal is because one of the bulbs is burned out or shorted out. If the signal and brakes use the same light which many cars do then check the wiring to it and replace bulb. If burns out again then it has a short between the signal switch and the actual light or the brake wiring to it is shorted.

There is a light on my dash it is a ! with a bunch of lines all around it. what is that light for?

According to the 2003 Ford TaurusOwners Manual:

"Brake system warning light: To confirm the brake system warning light is functional, it will
momentarily illuminate when the ignition is turned to the ON position when the engine is not running, or in a position between ON and START,
or by applying the parking brake when the ignition is turned to the ON position. If the brake system warning light does not illuminate at this
time, seek service immediately from your dealership. Illumination after releasing the parking brake indicates low brake fluid level and the brake
system should be inspected immediately by your servicing dealership."

In short, as your brake linings (pads and shoes) wear out, the brake fluid level in the reservoir goes down.

You're probably right at the point where the level gets low enough to turn on the warning only under specific circumstances (cornering? hard braking?).

You can top off the fluid for the short term, but you should have your brakes inspected fairly soon.

How often should the Brake discs be replaced

Only when the light comes on to let you know that the time for replacement is coming up.
Or when the brakes start to viberate and the pedal goes up and down slightly and the steering you can feel a wobble .
OR when you hear a bad grinding noise back or front.. other wise it depends on weather you drive in town work or open road long trips
Town about 100.000km
Open roads long trips 180,000km as it all depends on how often you use your brakes and how fast you drive to how hard you brake.

99 ford expedition, abs light stays on, front brakes seem to be dragging

When was the last time you changed the front brake pads?
Try this:
Keep the brake pedal pressed down and start the car, after it idles for about 10 second let go of the pedal. If the light comes on just as you leave the pedal - try pumping it a few times, turn the car off and pump the pedal some more until it becomes real hard.
Then, keeping your foot to the pedal, start the car.
Idle for about 10 seconds, let go of the pedal and press it again rel fast.
If the light doesnt come on again - it means you have a leak of some sort or that the main brake pump should be replaced.

Good luck.
