Question about 1996 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Car is overheating

I have a '95 Accord LX, manual transmission that is overheating. It runs fine for 5 - 10 minutes then steadily starts getting hot. It's not a matter of sitting at stop signs or stop lights and I notice no difference whether the heat is on or not. It's simply if the car is running for a long enough time it starts to get hot. I had a new radiator put in because a mechanic said it was leaking. That didn't solve the problem so I changed the thermostat myself. That didn't work either so I took the car back to a mechanic. They diagnosed the problem as one of the fans not working so I had that replaced. Still, nothing has changed. In sumarry, I've had a new radiator, thermostat and fan put in and it has not solved the problem. I see no obvious leaks and I'm not losing coolant. Also, there is no sign of oil in the coolant or water in the oil. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Is your cooling fan kicking on when temp rises? Are you running antifreeze or just water?Possible calcium buildup in radiator or water pump not working at full potential.. I could be more helpful if more detail info was given....

Car overheating

"Will start but will not turn over" What the hell do you mean by that ?
If you can start your engine then check the upper coolant hose, this one should get hot first, then, after thermostat opens, the lower coolant hose should start getting hot also, check both hoses every 30 seconds wile the engine warms up to operating temp. If any of the above is out of spec then I would change your water pump.

I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX sedan and the speedometer just stopped working. My mechanic just put in a transmission that he bought from a junk yard. How do i fix this problem?

I have a 99 accord and my speedometer and odometer did not work. The problem was the VSS vehicle speed sensor. The VSS is located on the transmission. Once I replaced it everything worked fine.

Car is overhaeating

did the mechanic that said that the fans assembly didn't work check out the fan switch? it is a sensor like a temp sensor that switches the fan on and off when the temp goes up in the engine.
did the mechanic tell you that the fans was working now? can you hear the fan come on when the engine temp rises? if not , it could be the switch or if the fan worked after the mechanic replaced it, it could be a wiring problem. possible faulty ground.
