The most likely cause of this is a failed power steering pump.

If I think a belt driven component is making a noise, engine running, I use a long metal bar of some kind, I place the tip on component housing, the other end, I place on that bone behind my ear, it magnifies the sound. I listen to each component housing, see if I can locate the problem, that way. A mechanics stethoscope would probably work as well.
You just have to be careful not to get anything caught in belt--pulleys or fan. Safety is your responsibility.
It is possible the noise isn't coming from a belt driven component? Are you sure it isn't coming from under the dash?

Much will cost replace power steering

the hard power steering is given away by the loud squeaky noise . It is the drive bely slipping from worn out or needs adjustment.. If the key problem is in the switch the replace the switch of if it is not engaging the starter motor have a look at the battery connections (shiny clean and tight) or the solenoid or starter relay.

Brake pump on 1992 plmouth voyager, the pedal is

If you have ABS brakes there is a large brake fluid pump connected to the brake fluid reservoir by two large hoses. It sits on top of the transmission and is held on by one bolt. Take a long metal rod and a hammer , place the rod against the body of the pump and with the car running tap or rap on the side of the pressure pump body. If it was just stuck you might get a few more months out of it. If it doesn't come back to life, get one at a salvage yard. Last time I checked they were on back order , supposedly about to be discontinued , and awfully expensive(about $600). I Picked one up a salvage yard for $10 that has worked now for three years.

The oddometer works but the speedometer doesn't in my 1992 Dodge Ram pickup. The gear that sits inside the transmission is not stripped and engages fine. Can the problem be somewhere other than the...

Could be a bad cluster. If one is cable driven, and the other electric. You could have a bad speed sensor in the transmission which will make the speedo not work.

You should have a few special tools ready.
Fender to Fender Engine support.
Transmission Jack
A Lift would be real nice
Once the Trany is out it will be easy to remove the pump. It's putting the new one back in that can cause you some real headaches.

91 accord alt belt

  1. Apply a force of 100 N (10 kg, 22 lbs) and measure the deflection between the alternator and crankshaft pulley. Deflection: 10 - 12 mm (0.39 - 0.47 in)
  • On a brand-new belt, the deflection should be 4.5 - 7 mm (0.18 - 0.28 in) when first measured.
  • If there are cracks or any damage evident on the belt, replace it with a new one.
    1. Loosen the through bolt and adjustment locknut.
    2. Turn the adjusting bolt to obtain the proper belt tension, then retighten the nut and mounting bolt.
    3. Recheck the belt deflection.
