Do u have high speed? if not it may be the blower motor and not the resistor, the blower motor and resistor (which is near it) are on the inside passenger side of car under the dash, u will have to lay on your back to even see it, and it is very hard to get at even then.

To view the blower resistor, you must first remove the trim panel under the passenger side of the dash (above where the passenger's legs go) You will then see the heater box with the blower motor mounted into it. The blower resistor is mounted in this same box. Look for a wiring connector with 4 wires in it. Where that electrical connector plugs into is the blower resistor. Remove the wiring connector and remove the 3 mounting screws. The resistor will then come out.

Blower motor not woking

Most common issue is the blower motor itself. Unplug it and test for 12v w/ key on and fan set to hi. If you have 12volts you need a new motor. If not check the fuse. If the fuse is good check for power at the resistor. Both the motor and resistor are below the glove box. Access them from underneath.

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

Took out glove box can,t locate blower resister

The blower motor and fan are located in the lower right hand corner of the HVAC module. Remove the right closeout/panel insulator to access the blower. The blower motor resistor is the part where the electrical connector goes into. Here is a pic. of the blower motor assembly and the blower motor resistor.

Good Luck!1 A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Heater blower works on high but not on any lower setting

There is a resistor that is used for the lower fan speeds; these resistors burn out, and have to be replaced. Go to and register (its free) you will then be able to access the repair guide and locate the resistor

Should be in the blower motor housing next to blower motor. It is held in the case by small screws and will have an electrical connector going to it.

2000 Chevy Malibu blower motor doesn't work on positions 1 & 2. Would appreciate details on how to fix or change it.

remove dash insulator from under glove box. then move bcm to one side, fan resistor is beside the fan blower motor. the resistor will keep fan speeds from working. remove wiring and screws from resistor then take it out.

Blower motor stop working on 2000 Pontiac GP

Two possibilities I can think of. #1. The blower motor itself is dead, or #2. The blower motor resistor is fried. Blower motor resistor, however, is more known for taking out certain fan speeds, such as the lower fan speeds.

Speed fan control is not working on 4 and 5

Had same problem on my 2000 Silhouette. The heater blower resistor block was burned out for fan speeds 1-3. This can be confirmed by disconnecting connector and using a checking continuity with VOM. The block is located behind the blower housing (just above the passenger's feet). Had to drop the blower motor to ease access. Resistor block is held in with three small screws, the back one can be a challenge - a small stubby or flex- shaft driver helps. Resistor block cost about $55 at dealer (more robust resistor pack than OEM). Haynes manual describes R&R fairly well.
