The water used is causing the spark to jump to the engine instead of to the spark plug. If you are due for a new set of wires go ahead and change them. If your wires are relatively new take them off 1 at a time and spray WD-40 in and on the ends. The WD stands for water displacement that should solve your problem.

I have a 2006 Honda Pilot. About a month ago, my check engine light came on. I had it checked at Autozone for the code and it was "Spark Plug Misfire". I replaced all 6 plugs with hight quality NGKs. ...

Not sure, but may be the timing is off. Autozone should be able to check it with a timing light. The timing setting determines the firing of the spark plugs. It it is off, it doesn't matter how new the spark plugs are.

Hi I have a 2004 Ford Explorer 6 cylinder 4.0 engine. I have cylinder 2 4 and 5 misfiring. I put new spark plugs, new spark plug wires and a new coil pack. All injectors have a pulse and spray fuel. I also...

Hello, It seems you have done a lot in trying to fix this. My first idea is that it is a pickup sensor for the camshaft or crankshaft. The firing order of your engine is 1 4 2 5 3 6. You are having misfires in 3 consecutive cylinders 4,2,5. This would seem to mean that the distance to trigger the firing is greater on 4,2,and 5 than on the other 3 cylinders. This can mean you have a lopsided situation on either the crank pulley or cam. You should see if the crank pulley is tight as well as the cam or if you can better adjust the 2 sensors.

Next, the Intake system can have a bad gasket. Use a water spray bottle and with the engine running, put a mist on the Intake gasket. If you have a change in RPM, then you have found a leak. This would explain why the same 3 cylinders are always misfiring. Some of the V-6 models used sandwiched 2 piece manifolds and the gasket between the upper and lower half would deteriorate over time. Some engines used "runners" between the Intake manifold and heads which could gum up over time. Just a cleaning operation if you are putting on a new Intake gasket anyway.

I hope my solution is very helpful and would like to know what you finally found as the problem.

The engine light has come on and has something to do with the code 1388. i have since confirmed it is coding for variable cam timer. i want to know how much it will cost me to fix this and the implication...

VVT bank two cam over retarted.

This usually indicates a physical issue with the VVT unit or the timing belt/chain. Most VVT units default to zero so if there is some electrical failure the car will still run well enough to driver. But, since you are getting this code it seems to indicate a mechanical issue instead. An over retarded cam will pull in too much exhaust gas on the intake stroke and can cause a loss of power or a mis-fire since the mixture will be lean. If this code is caused by a jumped chain or stretched belt, it can lead to serious engine damage if those parts should fail.

Throwing P0301 and P0302 fault codes as of yesterday. Check engine light has been on and threw code of P1450 about 3-4 months ago. Figured it was an evap issue and no big deal thats why I never remedied...

those are misfire codes. Cylinder #1 & #2 in the firing order. Check for bad plugs first. Swap one of the misfires with a non misfire cylinder and see if that cylinder misfires. Or just change the 2 plugs. Put high temp anti seize on the threads if you ever want to remove them later.

Then change the 2 COPs (Coil on Plug).

Finally, check for plugged or bad injectors. CHevron Techron injector cleaner is the best. Add to 1/4 tank of gas for better cleaning.

Report results.

Please rate too. Thanks.

Hi, my first recommendation would be to take the plugs out and visually inspect each one and check to make sure they are properly gapped, if they look fouled at all i would replace them without hesitation. try throwing a set of NGK plugs in the car to fix the misfires. other than that you may want to look at the wires. good luck joe

Check engine light on car engine jumping and driving hard.

Go to an Autozone, Checker, Shucks, Kragen, O'Reilly, or a NAPA auto parts store and ask them to use their code reader to find out what the trouble codes are causing your check engine light to come on. They will do this for no charge. Report back here once you know what the codes are.
