Bought used week ago ran OK for 3 days then while driving the engine went to max RPM. Checked & disconnected throttle cables, chkd butterfly valve and throttle body, all working freely my efforts have had no effect. When you start the engine it immediatly revs to max RPM wether it is cold or hot.

After I had the throttle body of my 2005 mazda3 cleaned, the RPMs would jump drastically - bouncing back and forth up to 16 times! The service manager seemed perplexed...and ultimately the solution was TIME. The bouncing gradually diminished and then stopped...can't remember for sure, but it was probably over about 6 weeks, maybe about 1000 miles.
One of the power wire going from your ecm to a sensor or solenoid is shorting to ground. Get a wiring diagram and an ohm meter. disconnect the battery and start checking each wire measuring from the wire to ground. as you wiggle you will see the meter show 0 ohms when it is shorted. These are the hardest and most time consuming kind of electrical problems .good luck

Firstly, try disconnecting both your battery connections, and with the battery disconnected, turn the ignition switch fully, 3- 4 times ( To just discharge the computers ) Then reconnect the battery cables (pos + ) first. This usually cures your problem.
