Question about 1991 Volkswagen Jetta

1991 Jetta GL - I don't have my radio code...

I have the booklet but nowhere does it have a code. Is it possible no code was applied? This was a special research vehicle (multifuel) provided to the State of California by VW so it may have some different features.

Take the vehicle to the nearest VW dealer.

all they need to do is pull the radio out and put the radio serial number into the computer and they get the code.

My 97 vw jetta gl stock radio does not work, I replaced the fuse for it but now the screen just lights up green nothing else

It's likely there is a security code for the radio which since being "disconnected" thinks the battery has been removed. Check with dealer by vin. They probably have the security code in their system.

I own a 98 jetta, I just completed some major engine work . But now I can't start it and the radio says safe mode.... whats up?

(STEREO-SAFE MODE ) Look on the (Stereo Booklet) It has a Vehicle stereo code card in the front page. Type the four digit code as it tells you in the instructions. If you don't have the booklet call the dealer and tell them to give you the code it should be free.

The code might be written in you owners manual/warrenty booklet. Its usally 4 numbers. Also if you pop out the radio the code could be on the radio itself, if not call the dealer with the radio out and give them the serial #

What size tires do I need?

The GL model came with two different tire sizes:
185/60R14 or 195/60R14, the GLX came with 205/50/R15. There should be a sticker on one of the door jams that will tell you what came on your new.

Radio code stuck in safe mode

I had this same problem when I had to disconnect the radio. If you take it to your local VW dealership they will give you the codes for free. Keep them though for when you have to redo it again. Every car is different.
