2005 chevy malibu, cannot move shifter without stepping ******* brake, cruise control will not work(maybe because it is linked to the brake pedal?) the brake light is on while driving and if you press easy they go off and then press down ******* the brake they go back on. This car has the movable brake and gas pedal. Mechanics cannot find the brake light switch that should be under the dash somewhere. That seems like it might be the problem? Any idea or schematic or something to show where it would be located? Thank you!

check cruise control fuse and check the brake lights see if brake light working because the brake light switch will deactivate cruise control when brakes is applied.if brake lights dont work either fuse blowed or switch bad.if all is good have vechicle code scan because cruise control control by PCM and vechicle speed sensor and thottle actuator control motor.
I would check the turn signal switch. The cruise and turn signal are on the same switch. The brake lights go through the switch before going to the brake lights. And the turn signals don't work with the ignition off.
Cruise control deactivates once you press the brake pedal. The brake switch us an input to the cruise control module. So it is possible that your brake switch went bad keping the lights on and making the cruise control module think you are applying the brakes when in fact you are not. Replace the brake light switch and check operation.
this could be a blown fuse(which you can check) or a mis-adjusted cruise cut out switch that works off of the brake switch.you may want to go to a shop that can check the cruise with a tool that has the capablilities to check cruise controls as it could be a switch or control unit that has gone bad.
Well i can tell you it will not be possible to refer you to a mechanic without knowing where you live. The cruise control issue is also a tough one, if the dealer couldn't figure it out, that's pretty bad. i might initially guess a vacuum leak, but the whole cruise control unit might just need to be replaced.
sounds to me as if you need a new ignition switch there is a metal rod that allows the locking of the shifter and as far as cruise is concerned the lever itself goes bad often but check to ensure the vacuum line going from thet intake to the round ball is in tact and not rotted out or disconnected but the shifter is locked from the ignition switch itself if you remove the plastic housing that surrounds it you should see the rod that runs down the steering column and look for the obvious anything thats come disconnected etc .
