Question about 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

2005 malibu where is the brake light switch?

2005 chevy malibu, cannot move shifter without stepping ******* brake, cruise control will not work(maybe because it is linked to the brake pedal?) the brake light is on while driving and if you press easy they go off and then press down ******* the brake they go back on. This car has the movable brake and gas pedal. Mechanics cannot find the brake light switch that should be under the dash somewhere. That seems like it might be the problem? Any idea or schematic or something to show where it would be located? Thank you!

I am having the same problem with our 2004 Malibu LT. I would be very interested in a solution.

I have the same problem. My mechanic replced the brake sensor (I am assuming this is the same as the brake position sensor) and the problem still exists. Also, my cruise control works when it wants to and the gas guage works only some of the time. If that wasn't all, I have to push very hard on the brake to get it out of park also. It often makes an odd sound when I do this. It is odd that som many problems are in common with the above poster. I like driving the little car, but it seems like something else goes wrong around every corner

There isn't one.  This car has a "brake and throttle by wire" system and the brake light switch is inside of that.  You have a bad brake position sensor.  Figure $240 or so at a dealer.

check cruise control fuse and check the brake lights see if brake light working because the brake light switch will deactivate cruise control when brakes is applied.if brake lights dont work either fuse blowed or switch bad.if all is good have vechicle code scan because cruise control control by PCM and vechicle speed sensor and thottle actuator control motor.

2005 chevy trailblazer - no cruise control and brake lights only work when key is turned off

I would check the turn signal switch. The cruise and turn signal are on the same switch. The brake lights go through the switch before going to the brake lights. And the turn signals don't work with the ignition off.

Brake light switch on 2002 chevy siloverado

Cruise control deactivates once you press the brake pedal. The brake switch us an input to the cruise control module. So it is possible that your brake switch went bad keping the lights on and making the cruise control module think you are applying the brakes when in fact you are not. Replace the brake light switch and check operation.

2005 Malibu Maxx cruise control won't turn on. Worked one day next day would not.

this could be a blown fuse(which you can check) or a mis-adjusted cruise cut out switch that works off of the brake may want to go to a shop that can check the cruise with a tool that has the capablilities to check cruise controls as it could be a switch or control unit that has gone bad.

Cruise Control Faulty.

Well i can tell you it will not be possible to refer you to a mechanic without knowing where you live. The cruise control issue is also a tough one, if the dealer couldn't figure it out, that's pretty bad. i might initially guess a vacuum leak, but the whole cruise control unit might just need to be replaced.

Cruise control not working, when turning ignition

sounds to me as if you need a new ignition switch there is a metal rod that allows the locking of the shifter and as far as cruise is concerned the lever itself goes bad often but check to ensure the vacuum line going from thet intake to the round ball is in tact and not rotted out or disconnected but the shifter is locked from the ignition switch itself if you remove the plastic housing that surrounds it you should see the rod that runs down the steering column and look for the obvious anything thats come disconnected etc .

Had brake booster replaced ,now no cruise control working..

the brake light switch is out of adjustment, the cruise thinks you are stepping on the brake. you will need to get the plunger on the switch to the right length and then your cruise should work

Cruise control will not 'set' on '05 kia sportage

Check the brake lighf bulbs. If even one is burnt out, it throws the sensors.
Had the same problem replaced both bulbs and now the esp light stays off and the cruise control sets.
