Most likely the thermostat broke. I expect that you have an older Hyundai and never had the anti-freeze changed. When the engine is cold the thermostat is closed which causes the engine to warm up more quickly. A warm engine runs more efficiently (less gas) and more smoothly. When the engine temp reaches a certain temp the thermostat opens and then allows the hot engine coolant to run through the lines to the heater core. The heater blows air over the heater core which produces the warm air that warms up the cabin. Thermostats used to be cheap and easy to change. I would suggest a web search for how to replace the thermostat. Something like 'hyundai accent 2002 replace thermostat".
Is there enough anti-freeze in the system? If so perhaps the system needs bleeding. On the front of the engine, on top near the big upper hose goose neck and nestled between the runners of the intake manifold is a small nipple that looks like a brake bleeder (10MM). This is a cooling system bleeder, a close cousin to the brake bleeder. When opened it will purge the system of air- likely the culpret you are experiencing. on a cold or just warm engine, this can be slightly opened with a wrench and the air can be "Burped" out. Attach a 1/4" clear hose to the nipple and open the bleeder until you see all the air has left the manifold. (Run the hose into a bucket and dispose of the used anti-freeze properly.) if that doesn't do it, maybe the thermostat is stuck in the open position. Replace it with a cold engine and use a new gasket each time. If all else fails, the heater core may be plugged.
probably a bubble of air in the system that hangs at the heater hose until pressure from water pump increases. Park on an incline to help the bubble migrate to the radiator. Open radiator cap, start engine and let it warm up until thermostat opens. after water is flowing in, fill radiator all the way to the neck. watch to see if bubbles continue to come up after the level stops going down, as this would indicate a blown head gasket. If bubbles stop, close cap and you should be good.
heater core is probably what was changed,..a little radiator under the dash that the hot water runs through and a fan behind it to blow at it thus giving you heat,...pretty much thats it in a nutshell,...sounds like something still leaking under there, (anti-freeze smell),... fill it back up with anti-freeze (non-toxic type so you don't polute) and drive to where you gotta go,....go to your mechanic to find that leak,.good luck, and do a hole shot for me! thanks, cracklin joe
Definitely check your fluid level in your radiator. Top it off all the way. I've seen that happen multiple times on cars that were low on anti-freeze. If that doesn't work try replacing your thermostat. It's cheap and the easiest place to start if topping off the fluid doesn't get you fixed up.
My 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8s with 55,000 mi. blows cold air from the heater. Coolant not circulating in engine. Lower hose stays cool to touch. Both heater hoses cold. Changed thermostat - didn't fix it. Coolant not leaking or dirty. None in oil - no oil in radiator. Changed worn water pump belt - pump spins freely with no noise or resistance. Cooling fans come on after warm-up. Temperature gauge stays in normal range then jumps to hot and back again. Coolant good to 10 below - didn't freeze here yet. No other problems or repairs to car. Afraid to drive and make worse. Help!
