My new ac unit isnt blowing out cold enough

Just got a new ac unit installed and the air still isnt coming out cold enough. i believe that most of the cold air has to be getting lost behind the dash somewhere??

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2012

my freon has been checked in topped off 3 different times. everything has been replaced. the air comes out cool but just not cold as it should be for a completely new ac unit. iv had it checked out by a few different shops and they say the ac unit is working properly. so the cold air has to be coming out somewhere before it gets to the vents. Im not sure how everthing works but i feel like where ever the initial air comes out isn't lined up with the vents or something. i am very frustrated because i just spent to much money on a new ac unit. Any other suggestions?

What's the temp been out side? If its over 95 degrees only expect you air to blow at about 75. It's an air conditioner not a cold air maker.

i understand that. but its honestly not blowing out cold enough regardless of the temp. i shouldnt be sweating. its been a few days now and iv driven it in tempts ranging from 70-90 and it doesnt do its job. one mechanic has recommended that i go under the dash but i would have no clue what i was doing.3

Does it blow out cold air under dash? If so you could have a lose duct.

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2012

no cold air comes out under the dash

Then I would say your compressor is bad.

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2012

not to be rude, but i feel like since its been to 3 different places that work on ac units they wouldve/shouldve caught something like that. They all insist that they have done everything they can regarding the ac unit and when they suggest that i go behind the dash they say they dont do that kind of work.

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2012

i just dont understand how it could be bad. i just had all this work done 2 weeks ago and its been checked by 2 other mechanics since, one being just yesterday and they both said everything is working properly.

some of the vents blow out cooler then the others if that makes any difference but still not cold enough

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2012

if i were to go under the dash, would i be able to see what is suppose to line up with the vents to deliver the air?

SOURCE: Hot/cold air blowing out when A/C unit is on

You can tinker with it, if you know how to get behind
the knob and look for the loose wires and re-solder it
in place.

I have a 1999 olds aurora an when ac is on it only blows hot air the refrigerant is full an ac clutch comes on

If you say clutch comes on, did you try feeling the suction pipes. If its not cold enough, you may have a poor ac compression. If its cold indeed, then the cold air may have been diverted elsewhere and this is caused by faulty hvac door actuators or faulty air mix controller. ?

Most likely yes it does need to be re-charged with refrigerant gas as this gas can leak over a long period of time

A/C Blows warm when idle

I can't say much without having the actual code.
When the ac stops blowing cold at idle, the most common reason is not enough air flowing thru the radiator, or the radiator fan is not running and the only air flow is when the vehicle is moving.

Car blows warm air when idling

It sounds like your AC unit could be overheating or even damaged.

AC units have a sensor that will turn them off automatically to prevent damage from overheating. If there is an insufficient amount of air flow, the unit will heat up, and then eventually turn off.

When the car is moving, more air is forced over the unit, likely keeping it cool enough to run, however, when the car come to a stop, it loses that air flow, and quickly heats up. Thus, the AC would work while the vehicle is in motion, and overheat and stop when the car is stopped and idling.

However, the AC unit could be completely blown. The cold air while moving could be just a case of air being forced into the car. Think of a house fan, the fast the wind blows on you, the cooler it gets.... Thus, it could be an illusion that the AC is working when car is in motion, when it really isn't.

Hope this helps.
