First thing to do is test these fuses with a tester light. Check the A/C cruise control fuse 10 amp (left side of dash in panel), heated mirror fuse 10 amp (right side of dash in panel), this is also where you will find the circuit breaker and relay for the rear defroster. Test the breaker for power in and out. Feel the relay to see if it clicks when you turn on the rear defrost
Jeff, If you have already checked the fuses, check the wires attached to the defroster Grid. You may be able to see them inside the rear window. Make sure they are still connected. You might also want to check in the trunk the wires may run into it, and might have peen pulled apart when you put somthing in the trunk. As a last resort take a continuity tester and check the grid itself to make sure it hasn't failed altogether. Un plug the wires b-4 you test it to avoid a false reading.
there may be a defrost window/ liftgate fuse under dash or in the engine compartment check that first/ you can also check the plug in for the defroster it just pull out and clean with steel wool/ after that if that does not work then the actuall switch is bad switch the button that is/ if you have questions let me know Please rate my response thank you very much
as I remember there are wires going to each window, if just one place on the glass has been scratched through the copper lines they will not work, also there is a relay, I could not tell you the exact location, but I think if the light comes on to tell you they are working then the relay is ok, also check fuses. I have had this problem many times in the past. If the copper lines have been broken they can be fixed, also the clips that hold the wires to the defroster check them and the actual connections. I hope this helps you. God Bless and Merry Christmas!
