Question about 1997 Saab 9000

Saab 9000 97 hard to start, once started fine

Once my car is started it runs fine but it is a really hard to start. The engine will turn over a few times for about 15 seconds. I do not have a thermostat in the car right now, is this the reason?? My check engine - radiator light is on as well..

there is another problem that sometimes my gauges will all over a sudden stop working my mph will go to 0 and then my gas gauge will go to 0 as well then it will snap back into where it is supposed to be at. And sometimes when I turn my light switch to on it will kill the engine!!! What is up with that?!!?

Occasionally when you first start the car the brake pedal will barely move and it is hard to stop the vehicle when rolling in the driveway, like the power brakes aren't working.

Power brakes are operated by engine vacuum. It sounds like you may have a leak in the power brake vacuum system, so when the engine isn't running, the vacuum leaks away, and you have no "power" in your power brakes. Once the engine is running, the vacuum is built up over several seconds, and you have power for braking again.

I would check the vacuum lines for cracking and the power brake module for vacuum leaks.

My saab after sitting for a while is hard to start-however engine turns over ok. When engine runs, all is fine and after short breaks say from store to store its fine also. Could it be a fuel related...

Get the ignition coil packs checked. Poor starting (especially when the engine is hot) is a classic sign of one or more failed ignition coils.

Hard to start cold but once running is ok

I believe you have a throtle body correct? IF so you have poor fuel pressure, plugged filter of injector. If by some miracle you have a carberated engine the the fuel is leaking from the bowl. Get a carb rebuild kit.

My 2005 Saab 93 Won't Start. Turns over clicks and Engine Light comes on. Battery seems fine.

The battey may seem fine , but it most likley is weak and needs to be charged , or replaced. The clicking you hear is the ign relay or solenoid not having the amperage to fully engage the starter to allow the starter to turn the flywheel and start the engine. Also really check you battery connections , make sure they are super clean and tight.

OK...if someone gives me a bad rating on this, I'll be really annoyed...
saw off the "fixed" hold-down on the distributor and use a chevrolet smallblock hold-down. Once re-installed turn distributor ccw about 1/4" or slightly more. If I'm correct, engine should run fine after that.

Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon 2000 wont restart when warm or after running

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5. I had a similiar problem. The car would always run cold. It would get hot and the engine would quit. It could be anywhere. One mile from start to 50 miles from start. Once it cooled down it would re-start but the cool down time was always different. Only difference for me was my car would crank, just not run. Replaced the crank position sensor ($60), no more problems! Good luck!

Engine hard to start at times, also runs rough at idle

Came across a fault similar to this a few years ago and it turned out to be the wires going into the distributor had become dry and brittle due to engine heat.Excessive resistance in the wires made vehicle hard to start and caused problems when accelerating hard.

Hard to start

Have you changed out the starter, sure sounds like a starter or starter wiring issue.
