04 dodge diesel cuts out while driving at speed

My 2004 dodge 3500, 325h.p. H.O. cummins manual 6spd. cuts out while driving at any speed. May happen once in 50-100miles. Cuts out from one complete dead miss to a 3-4 seconds. Dealer said it was lift pump at a cost of $785.00 but I installed a F.A.S.S. (fuel air separation system) electric high flow fuel pump at $650.00. Problem still there! Anybody got a clue?
Thanks, Rick

Thanks for the response but by putting in the new FASS fuel pump it no longer needs fuel to the high pressure pump so the problem is now beyond fuel to engine trouble. It has been said that it could be one of the following AIT SENSOR what ever that is, FUEL REGULATOR SENSOR at $400.00 , THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR at $1200.00, or the High pressure pump/injection pump at $4500.00 or it could even be an electrical problem. Still looking for help!

    Thanks

Thanks for the effort but this prognosis was eliminated when the FASS fuel system was added. Now the problem must be from the injection or high pressure pump. I've been told that it could be one of the following AIT SENSOR whatever that is, FUEL REGULATOR SENSOR at $400, TPS throttle position sensor at $1200 or even the high pressure pump/injection pump at $4500. Any more ideas?

    Thanks, Rick

I had the same problem........ It would cut out real bad, then some times it would not.......
I had lots of people tell me lots of things, and I did them, nothing worked, then I thought it may b sucking air, so I tightened up the fuel filter lid,(the top of the fuel filter housing), and it all but stopped cutting out, now it will cut out very seldom, hardly never and when it does it is just for a split second.
good luck;)

Hi. I had the same problem on my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins. I went to the dealer and they did a bunch of diagnostics and they replaced my fuel pump. At the same time they put in a retrofit kit that moved the fuel pump to the inside of the gas tank. I have not had the problem since. The cost was about $1,200, but my 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty covered it and I had to pay the $100 deductible.

I do not have Cummins codes so I would consider replacing the injectors or taking it to a Cummins service centre to have it fixed as the parts will not be cheap if not diagnosed correctly

I have a 2006 dodge ram 2500 cummins cuts out and sputers at a half of tank but when full of diesel drives great .\

You either have a problem with the lift pump which is unlikely. The sending unit in the tank came apart would be my first thought wouldn't be the first time I've seen that

Cummins diesel in 2001 Dodge is cutting out and mild surge. code#s are P0500,P0370 P1693

you have codes related to the pcm, transfer pump and a vehicle speed sensor. these could be related or all individual issues. related issued could be wiring, untill you start doing testing it will be hard to tell.
start cheap and test the speed sensor first, then you can clear the codes and continue on any codes come back.

Disconnect the PCM harness connector(s).
Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor harness connector.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the 5 Volt Supply circuit between the VSS harness
connector and the PCM harness connector.
Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms?

2007 Dodge 3500 cummins diesel was filled with E85 ethanol

Just drain the tank and refill with diesel fuel. Hit the starter for a second and leave the key on for the fuel to prime. You may have to do this a couple times to get it to start. Run it down the highway at normal cruising speed for a while and it should be ok. I wouldn't worry about the injectors yet unless it doesn't recover on it's own.

Although you didn't mention it, the speedometer probably bounces also. Replacing the speed sensor on the side of the transmission should solve both your problems. Good luck
