95 Landcruiser Turbo warning light comes on under heavy load

Hi,
I have a 95 Series 80 VX Ltd Landcruiser.
Some months ago while towing a boat on open road, up a steep hill, the Turbo warning light came on and did not go off until the engine was turned off. It didn't come back on.
Last weekend a similar thing happened, while going up a steep hill, although I wasn't towing this time. I pulled over a few km's later and turned the engine off for a minute or two. The light went off, but returned about 10 minutes later whilst going up another steep hill. The light stayed on for the rest of the journey.
There may have been a small decrease in power. hard to tell as they were quite long steep hills, and I had a bit of load.
I'm wondering exactly what the light is supposed to indicate and whether I should be concerned.
Also, is there any periodic maintenance that should be carried out to the turbo charger?
Thanks.

If you are "lugging" the engine, you will get increased exhaust temperature (EGT), this will trigger your "turbo" light(not a good thing), ideally you should have an aftermarket "pyrometer" fitted to your car, this will show you the optimum revs etc you should be using in any given circumstance.Or revise your driving technique, ie change down gears earlier.
The turbo should be idled down after long trips or heavy towing, this allows the oil temps to stabilise and turbine speeds to stabilise, thus idle for 2-5 minutes.

Why does the system fuel light keep coming on my Toyota landcruiser workmate 70 series 2004 year car

sometimes oxygen sensor can trip different lights coming on, you could try changing that to see if it stops it, if not could be some type of fuse tripping the electrical system.

Could be a problem with yr fuel sender unit as it has done a fair few k's I would just ignore it anyway!!! Sometime the actual float 4 some reason will sink & activate the low fuel level warning light!!! Mine does it all the time wen I park at an angle - up or down a hill......

My 2002 S40 shakes when the car goes up a steep hill and smooths out when the road levels.

Most up hill problems are Ignition related, such as
individual cylinder coils or a coil pack, depending on
what your car has.

You may or may not have a check light on the dash

A more violent & more sudden, somewhat similar lack
of up hill performance ,would be the EGR Valve.

If you never had any trans issues since the car was new,
& I don't think that is the case with the mostly under load
& up hill issues,I would change the trans fluid again, not
have it flushed, just change it & add,LUBGARD in the RED
BOTTLE,no other product or brand.

I will assume your spark plugs have been in the motor less
than 3 years or 60,000 miles

Also not really related but effects fuel trim or adjustment,is the
front O2 Sensors, the ones closest to the motor before the
converter. Change them at 100,000 miles.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge. I like to go on a road test
with the gauge taped or tied to the windshield or wiper arm.

Any kind of vacuum leak will cause a problem

Make sure the air filter cover is on correctly

When should i use 4 wheel hi on 1996 chevy k1500

use 4 wheel high only on slippery surfaces like icey roads dirt roads mud etc. can go as fast as you want [not recomended on slippery surfaces]
low is only for hard pulling like towing something up a hill or climbing steep grades
