car wont crank or car wont start? I would say your battery cables are bad,, acid gets in from battery and erodes internal cable parts... need a Meter to check it out.. put the meter on battery while someone tries to start it, if the voltage drops from 13.5 to 10 then it is trying to turn over, I always have the new starters tester before I leave a store, they are remanufactured in Malaysa and they use old parts in most of them..
Distributer has nothing to do with cranking. Sounds like starter, tap on starter while someone holds key in start position. Make sure your battery cables are good, too.
Maybe your security system is causing a problem? There are usually ways to see if starter motor will crank the engine, but, if security system is involved, even if we crank it, it probably still won't start.
I can help with testing if you want to try it, just to see if it will crank?
Are you certain the security has not immobilized the car? If it isn't a security issue, there is probably a problem in the start circuit.
If you check for power on the small starter solenoid wire, with the key held in crank, and no power is on that wire-the start circuit from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid has a problem. If the wire does have power with key in cranking position, probably a bad connection from battery to starter, since you have a new starter.
To be certain the engine is not locked up, put a socket and wrench on the crankshaft pulley center bolt and turn the engine over by hand a revolution or so.
I had this happen last month. It was my starter. My previous cars would miss and catch, letting me know the starter was finished, but this one just totally died, I had power for lights and gages moved, but would not start.
verify that you have a fully charge battery and that you have the same amount of voltage at the battery as at the starter when the key is turned to the start position. If not repair fault at positive cable either at battery or at starter. If voltage checks good. Use a remote starter and turn key to the on position and try to crank over engine with remote starter. if engine cranks over. You have a defective starter solenoid and starter must be replaced.
