If this is after you stopped the engine , is is possible the Cooling Fan is still powered for a short time to cool the system even after you left the car. In some rare occasions ( VW vr6 p.e.) there is also an electrical water-pump to keep the cooling going after stopping the engine.
bmw has a known issue with the resistor block. it controls the operation of the ac computer. i suggest to have it tested and replaced asap. it caused the socket and wires to melt in one of my friends car
