The rubber foot pad of the brake pedal is on a steel rod or frame. On the opposite end of the frame, from the foot pad is where the switch will be. You should be able to see it if you look under the dash with a flashlight. They can be tricky, since they have to be mounted properly in order to make contact with the brake frame and they're never easy to get a wrench around.

Does truck have to be running on my 1990 toyota 4-runner 4x4 ?

No, you can do it without the engine running. The power assist just makes braking easier. Just make sure you don't move the pedal till the bleeder is tight, then pump it back up an do it again. Start at the right rear and move towards the front left. Hope this helps.

95 tercel tail lights won't turn off

Stoplights are usually turned on by a switch mounted above the brake pedal. When the pedal is fully released, it presses on the switch and it breaks the circuit. When you press the pedal, it releases the switch and the circuit completes, turning on the lights.

Most likely cause of this is that the switch is either broken or misaligned.

Adjust the switch to be depressed when the pedal is up. If the lights turn off, you're done.

If this does not fix it, unplug the switch from the wiring harness. If this makes the lights go off, your switch is broken, buy a new one. If it does not, you have a short circuit in the wiring. You will need to trace the harness, find the damage and repair it by splicing or replacing the harness.

May be you could try these steps:
  1. 1 Check the brake-pedal switch. This small button behind the brake pedals is activated when you press down on the brake pedal and makes the brake light go on. Press the switch by hand to see if it's stuck. If it is, pressing it may force the stuck part.
  2. Step 2 Find the fuse for the brake light and pull it out. Remember to put it back in before driving again
  3. Step 3 Find the brake lightbulbs and remove them. Remember to put them back in before driving again.
  4. Step 4 Disconnect the negative battery cable. You will have to reconnect it again to start and drive your car.

'96 Toyota 4-Runner makes a loud squealing noise and brake light

Sounds like one of the auxillary belts slipping it may just need tightening up. I think the 4-Runner has two belts one large and one for the steering pump

95 toyota 4 runner where is the brake light switch?

The brake light switch is mounted directly over the brake pedal; where the pedal pivots.
The graciousness of a FixYa rating would be greatly appreciated.
