If u don't know where the plugs are then it is better u hire someone to replace them, also they are good for 100,000 miles.

You have to remove the plastic cover on the front bank of cylinders and then remove the 3 ignition modules these are recognized by the three wire connector attached to each one then with an 6 inch extension and spark plug socket remove the plugs . The rear set of plugs is about the same only the ignition coils are not covered once you see what the front ones look like you will be able to do the rear ones with no problem

I was told that in order to change the spark plugs on my Nissan Maxima, the shop would have to remove the intake manifold to an extra cost of 200.00. Is it necessary to remove the intake manifold to change...

This is possibly true, especially if you have a 6 cylinder. They don't actually remove the whole intake from the motor, there is a section of the intake system that can be removed fairly easily and then the plugs can be accessed. Unfortunately, this design was more to push the price of a tune up higher than a needed design change, at least in my opinion. Since you have to remove that part most people are more inclined to take a vehicle to the dealer to replace spark plugs instead of doing it themselves and as you know, the dealership prices are higher than anywhere else and the mechanics have the same qualifications other mechanics have.Typically no seals need to be replaced when this is done but it does take more time and that is where the dealership makes it's money.

Change spark plugs on nissan 2000 , were to start on a tune up

mark your leads before pulling them off the plugs, replace the plugs, clean air filter, buy a bottle of injector cleaner and put that in your tank, check your belt condition and adjust slack, check all under hood fluids, check all vaccuum hoses for leaks and cracks, check fuel line is not persished, while you have the mechanical hat on, check your front and rear brake pads and rotors, safe driving and have fun. Cheers.

Cylinder 1 is misfireing. Do I need a tune up?

a tune up will not likely fix that. you need to find out why it is doing that. the most likely source is that the coil pack is failing. a quick test is to pull the spark plug lead off off the coil pack for #1 cylinder. if it's failing the spark will be weak or non existant. were rubber gloves when you do that to avoid getting zapped.

also if there is white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe you may have a blown head gasket. find out first why it's not working right before you spend money on the tune-up. which now a days consist of just changing the spark plugs and maybe wires as the engine is computer controlled.

Every 30,000 miles you need an air filter, every 60,000 a fuel filter, every 100,000 spark plugs. That's it.
